HUD & controls (360)

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 4:50 pm

Hello guys, i was wantin to kno what ur thoughts are about the HUD and controls for skyrim.

First off, in GI mag it says the HUD will now be hudless (meaning no health bars and such), how do u think this will work? will the screen turn redder the less health u have? and how do u think the magic will work?

Second, i was wantin to kno what yall think the controls will be (360 and/or ps3) that way we can possible see how the combat will work. the following is what i think the controls will be:

A) accept
B ) crouch
X) sheath / draw weapon
Y) Jump
RS) look around
LS) move around
RS click) 3rd/1st person view (if toggable in the menu this button could be 'grab/move item')
LS click) sprint
Back) wait
Start) pause
RT) RW attack
LT) LW attack
RB) bash / block with RW
LB) bash / block with LW (or more likly dragon shout thanks to the black ghost for remindin me)
Dup) skills / or go to the entire menu and the other d-buttons would be used for hot keys
Ddown) map / quest
Dright) items
Dleft) magic / spells

The one big reason i dislike the xbox version of the game is the stupid hotkey system with the dpad. do you know how hard it is to do any corners in the middle of combat with a dpad!!!!! if they announce that there will be a change in the hotkey system i will consider xbox 360 over PC. as for control im good with what they did in Oblivion......EXCEPT FOR THE [censored] HOTKEY!!!!! sorry im easily super irritated

thats wht ive been wondering bc in the gi mag the hotkeys seem to be gone and replaced with a 'favorite' weapon/armor in the menu, meaning that ull have to go to ur inventory and press some button to equip ur 'favorite'

Also how can you only have one sheathe button when there is dual wielding and two attack buttons?

Yeah I think this is right, or very close. I figure bumpers will be blocks.

We're missing one button: Shouts. (This is confirmed as a separate button, unless it was reported wrong).
I think that you block together, not independently.

LB: Block/Bash BOTH weapons
RB: Shouts (like the magic in OB)

This makes sense, because the shouts are kind of like special powers, and most games map special power buttons to RB, like slow-mo (confirmed for Skyrim already).

They said they refined the hotkey system and made it much easier and faster to switch through weapon sets.

I hope we can make a whole armor sets and weapons on one hotkey.

sheathe button sheathe both weapons... as for the hotkeys read my post above u. and the 'move' button was useless except for those who likd to 'role play'.

@The black ghost :facepalm: i completely forgot about the shout button, i guess it would be one of the bumpers then. thanks for mentionin that =).

also the reason i hav the d-pad the way its listed is bc the magizine decribed the menus to set buttons

I'd be shocked if they don't allow us to move things. Also, what if you only want to sheathe one weapon?

I used the move button all the time, I liked to set items up around my houses and make them all beautyyy-ful.

Going in the menu and swapping out favorites for armor and weapon sets is one thing. But hotkeys were also used for potions and torches and other stuff. Hotkeys cannot be removed. That's a step backwards not forward.

well lik i said that is what i think the control scheme will be. care to share what u think itll be? cause from what we kno, theres not enough buttons for the grab button.

edit maybe only one of the d buttons is the menus then the other 3 would be the hotkeys.

One sheathe button doesn't work. It would be lame if we have to sheathe both weapons every time. The inventory will still be brought up with circle (b on 360) and then from there its left, right, up, down for spells, inventory, map, and skills.

Then what would be the crouch button? and if there is another sheathe button what would that be? see theres not enough buttons

Yes it does. If you really want to fight with one sword, just sheathe em' and press one of the attack buttons, or go into your inventory and unequip a sword.

Click the right stick for crouch. No need to change it? Switching between first/third person can easily be moved into a toggable option in the menus to free up a button.

I thought hotkeying with a dpad was easy myself, but that's me. I'll be getting the game for PC if they announce that Skyrim will have complete compatibiltiy with the 360 controller. That way I have the best of both worlds, I get the graphics and mods of the PC with the controller of the 360 and then I will attach my computer to my tv for 52" of HD goodness (I'm connected to the tv right now, all you people write too big :tongue: )

You asked me for my suggestion did you not? Do you want feedback or did you create this thread only to tell us what you think?

Switching between first/third person can be moved under the start menu to free up a button.

Absolutely not. Beth will find a work around. They won't make it cumbersome like that.

Well if the system works out like I hope, the move button will be used to drag bodies off to hide them so the guards don't go all "criminal scum" on you.

Cumbersome? How? Why do you need separate sheathe buttons for each weapon? If you want to only swing one of your two weapons, only press the one button. If your wanting to fight with only one sword, unequip the other. If your really that adamant about fighting with one sword, unequip the other.

i was simply showin the flaw in what u suggested, calm down. now that u actually freed up a button then yeah that could work. im jus thinkin about how the controls could be set up in the best way possible to feel right.

Yes I would be shocked if they removed the grab feature. I have a feeling switching between first/third person will be a toggle in the start menu which will free up a button.

Terrible. You really didn't think this out:
Magic casting is associated with hands now, so there is no button for that (you didn't put one, but I'm leading to something here). They already explained that bashing and blocking is done with the same key (you press for block, hold for bash. Yes, this means that blocking MUST be done AT THE MOMENT you're about to get hit, or you won't get anything out of it). So RB and LB are open for use. Oh, yeah, and you can't block while dual wielding. That also opens up keys.

Left Trigger = Use left handed selection
Right Trigger = Use right handed selection
RB = Grab
LB = Sprint
Left Control Stick in = Sneak
Right Control Stick in/held = third/first person/vanity mode
Y = Journal
B = Jump
A = Select
X = Sheath/Draw weapons

Granted, sprint and sneak's positions may be swapped. It just depends on a few factors.
