Hud Options

Post » Mon Feb 28, 2011 8:20 pm

I've been paying slight attention to this game since I saw the first cgi video a long time ago, I'm thinking of getting this game after seeing all the new video's of it... I just have one really big question. Is there a way to disable hud elements? Well not really the Hud elements I'm worried about the most, but also disabling the +2xp spam that happens every time you shoot an enemy?

I like the game, but even though it looks good, I doubt it would be worth the money if I was frustratingly having to deal with the number spam all over the screen.

I know its dumb that small issues like this can be a deciding factor between getting it or not getting it, but it's my money so keep your opinions to yourself please. I just want to know if I can at least disable the XP from showing up on screen, and if you're able, let me know if any other hud options can be turned off.

Damn, it's really THAT big of a deal? You couldn't get used to it?

That video was a long time ago, anyway. They might've already taken it out.

They had automated disabling of unused HUD elements at a certain point. They are certainly thinking about the HUD. If you play on PC you should be able to disable it anyway.

Nope, I play on xbox atm. And yes, its a small thing to get over... but I like immersive games (killzone, bad company, operation flashpoint, oblivion) where you can get lost in the world. I don't really need all the hud to go away although it is cool to hear the game has a hud that hides the things you aren't using.

It's my money, I have the choice between homefront, Red river, brink, portal 2, LA Noire, and Deus Ex between now and then... They are all good games but I won't be getting them all, and annoying things that are going to be in my face 24/7 while I play the game will factor in to which few I get. I hated the numbers in borderlands, and I don't want to get a game where symbols are flying off of people like they are bleeding them.

So yep, its dumb, but I'm the consumer and I won't simply give you money because you tried.

I did not even notice that in the newer vids... in fact, most people who actually play say it's kind of neat, some people just laugh.

Most of the vids are so old its hard to say for sure if that is actually how the xp for killing/shooting is going to appear in game.

Come on, now. He was just puzzled by it. We don't need members telling other members what they should and shouldn't say. The mods get involved when they feel it's necessary.

For XBox gamers, LA Noire will be a must buy, I believe. (Even though the technology used for that game is totally wasted on a console, while PCs have sooo much more power.)

The quality of the face-textures makes a more than sad panda.

They're better than anything else I've seen on console or PC, aside from really detailed CGI sequences. The gameplay and video sequences are basically identical in that game, and from what I've seen flow together seamlessly.

Anyway, platform wars are lame, and the lowest form of gaming conversation.

I agree! If the little things can make a game, they can also break one. I'll try the game out once it arrives and cast my verdict then, but if it was poosible I would've loved to keep it as clean as in the video "Choir of Guns".

You're on a forum, where people come to discuss, and you're telling people to keep their opinions to themselves....good luck with that.

then you obviously haven't had much exposure to PC gaming.

I've seen plenty of PC game's graphics. I think half the reason PC gamers think their graphics are so superior is because of the money they've spent on upgrading their systems, even though it technically isn't much if any better. Delusions of grandeur. Sort of like how people think they catch a better buzz off of the 2 seven dollar beers they've bought at the bar than the same exact 2 dollar beer from the grocer.

And that money translates to better gear, with translates to even better graphics.

Wise words, the whole graphics war doesn't make sense to me anyway, to a point, If you want to see something pretty go pay 20$ to go to an art gallery instead of upgrading your graphics card for 150+ every two years.
I will be buying brink for xbox and pc so not a big deal to me.

OT:At one point I remember talk of slowly dimming HUD and customizing items that are not used, i.e. ammo dissapears until you reload and health if you havent been shot for a while as well as removing them completely in the menu, no confirmation of course hopefully they will have a finalized HUD at PAXEast

When a single video card costs as much as 2 consoles, it's pretty naive to think that it isn't capable of (far) superior graphics.

It would seem that way, wouldn't it? That's probably half the effect right there.

But there is no effect, just facts. PC's have the better hardware and thus, can produce the best graphics. It's pretty simple common sense.

I respect your opinion but as a pc/xbox gamer I will have to disagree(sorta),
I have a friend with a rig far exceeding 2000 dollars and it turns out on a 25" screen graphics look much better, but when you hook that computer up to a monitor or tv the size of the tv I play the xbox on it becomes obvious it wasnt worth the extra money he paid for his graphics card.
1 amazing graphics card = 10 games on console
which imo, 1 amazing graphics card = overpriced
It is capable but not as much as most pc gamer say

Exactly my point. The extra money spent is generally not relative to the increase in quality.

The best example I can think of is a high-end bicycle frame. A 10 lb. frame (fudging numbers here) will run about 2500 bucks, but getting it down to a 9 lb. frame will cost about 3500 bucks, then getting into the 8.5 lb. area is about 15000 bucks.

I feel that a mod's interference will be needed here in the near future.

Anywho back on topic.
To the OP, to not buy brink just because numbers pop up is very dumb, but thats my opinion, and you must notice it to much because it never botherd me in borderlands, i never really noticed them.

But im sure they toned it down or completely removed them now. And yes its your money and you can decide not to buy a super awesome game such as brink and miss out on the adrediline fueled, gun filled, parkour pie of deliciously awesome with a side of godly bacon wrapped cupcakes, but is it worth it for somthing so small? THAT, sir, is for you to decide.

P.S. Homefront svcks. :D
