Map is 3D outside, 2D inside. Outside, imo, you get that grand feeling of awe, and if you think it is unrealistic you could count it as an awareness of the land, since it only really shows the general formation/settlements.
3D model imaging gives rise to cool little puzzles, as shown in the demo. I do not see why you would hate against that honestly. I am somewhat annoyed at the lack of player model though... I did like seeing how stuff changed how I looked without going in/out of the menu.
Personally, I felt Morrowinds UI was somewhat cluttered and clunky. It was cool how you could move it around and re-scale it, but you could never have all the information on screen at one time, so I felt I had to keep on altering it to see stats and stuff, which was a little annoying. It also had a "numeric table" feel.... And so I am glad it is moving away from that.
Oblivions' also had a few flaws, which the favorite system seems to be aimed at fixing. I hated having to scroll past all those random keys and scrolls looking for the right thing
Also... we have not had a detailed show around the UI yet. We have had glimpses, and a basic overview, but nothing more. So speculating is going to be a stretch.
