HUD Transparency

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:06 am

I did a search and found no mention of this topic previously. I'd like Bethesda to consider adding a HUD transparency slider in Skyrim for whatever persistent HUD aspects are shown during game play. Considering at least half (perhaps more than half) of your target market will be console gamers, and a significant portion of those may be playing on a Plasma set, I feel this is an important customization feature to have.

Keeping in mind that plasma sets are prone to image retention or "screen burn" a transparency option on the HUD would be useful to help gamers avoid this. Now, mine is a brand new TV set (2011 model) and the newer sets are not as prone to burn in and have built in features to help avoid this and I've done a fair amount of gaming already and not noticed any problems, but with the amount of hours that I and my wife typically put in to an elder scrolls game, I'd prefer not to push my luck.

What do you guys think? Does this seem a reasonable request?

Skyrim has a new system of HUD that disables when you are not in combat, so you dont need to worry about it

um... I thought the "quest compass" was going to be consistent regardless of whether or not you're in combat. Am I mistaken?

You are hard-core if you play for several days straight without going into the menu. :whistling:

It's been a while, but surely later-generation plasma TVs reduced the issue to the point where something like a video game UI isn't going to make any difference? I mean, very few people are going to have it on the screen for more than a few hours at a time.

Yes, it has been mentioned that the compass will remain visible at all times. It's the other elements of the hud, like your hp, magika, etc that will appear only when in combat.

Or if you've taken damage and aren't at full health.

Won't the quest compass move and spin by definition? Or does that not stop burn-in?
