Huge Land Tear near Infected Mine

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 10:30 pm

Greetings!

While traveling to the Hammerfell Watch Tower (Fort Akatosh Redux mod) I came upon a HUGE land tear just to the west of Infected Mine. That sort of thing happens every so often, though this is my first exposure to one since re-installing the game and my mods over a month ago. I immediately exited and relaunched Oblivion, loading my save taking on the westernmost of the two West Roads (mod) and again traveled toward the tower. The tear was still there. This time I continued on, cleared the tower, lit its watch-fire, rested three-and-a-half game-days inside the tower, and headed back toward the West Road. The tear remained. I rebooted the computer and loaded the game from my West Road, pre-tower-visit, save. The tear was there. Not sure what's up with that.

This was my first journey through that particular area. I have no idea how long the tear has been there.

Oddly, I twice tried to take a capture of the spot in question with the map open to better pinpoint its location. Both times the proper on-screen conformation message appeared. Yet when I later examined those views neither showed the map but only normal adventure screens. A quirk of my new install, I suppose.

The only mods I have installed that for sure alter scenery anywhere near the tear are the two mentioned above. But none of their intentional changes are all that close to the tear. Surely something this big would be noticed? I also run UL-Lost Cost but am almost certain it doesn't extend that far northeast. Of course I might be overlooking something, so include my load-order for your amusemant.

What in the world is causing this, and why won't it go away? Or will it, should I choose to simply ignore the matter for a length of time?

Thanks in advance!

It's not Kragenir's Death Quest this time. :o

UL would be an obvious suspect, but I doubt they'd miss something like that so a conflict with UL would be more likely. As for which mod, I have no idea either.

Try running Land Magic, found on Nexus. See if that fixes it :)

You could also try closing Oblivion and restarting. I've encountered a few missing chunks of land that were "fixed" by restarting. I think the game simply chokes on data every once in awhile.

If you've updated to the latest 1.4 version of Fort Akatosh from this week, make sure you got the updated version of FortAkatoshRedux-NewRoads&Bridges patch.esp

UPDATE:

The hole being in such a remote location, I decided to ignore it and check back next time I passed near that area. Got my chance this morning while traveling between fighters guild assignments. Unless I missed my old path and got hopelessly lost, the hole is gone. All's well, at least so far as land holes near Infected Mine are concerned.

Odd that it didn't respond to normal treatment for such temporary holes/tears: reload the game, reboot and reload, or rest for over three game-days. My guess is that the glitch got stuck in some Windows buffer or cache which needed to clear itself for things to return to normal. That prolly happened last night when we lost electricity during a horrific tornado warning. (Darn scary!)
