Huge mod now crashes game fo no reason

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:18 am

I have been working on a huge custom mods and out of no where it seems to crash the game. I have several versions and several backups but no matter what it makes the games crash. Now I can't boot up the game to test out functions or even play the mod for that matter. It's only dependencies are The DLC and the fallout3.esm. This is a very big setback as I have be working on this for weeks and made considerable progress in completing the mod for the alpha stage. I load the game using FOMM and FOSE but even with them the game still crashes. I was able to the single out that the my mod what causing the problem to occur by loading nothing but the original game files.

See if you can start a new game with your mod loaded. I've messed up a lot of save games when working on mine, especially when inserting new variables into quests, etc.
Also, get FO3Edit and check your mod for errors.

Did you use texture sets to retexture a furninture object?
Can you load your mod in the GECK without a crash? If so, then look at the errors.

This isn't intended to sound smart-assed, but: You did back up the mod, right?

I haven re textured anything yet, I had multiple backups, and I can even start a new game even after deleting my setup folder in my documents and fallout3edit detects no error

As far as I remember, GECK actually creates a backup of your esp every time you press the save button. It should be placed in the Data/Backup folder.

You mean that you can only start a new game after deleting the My Documents/My Games/Fallout3 folder? Or that you can start a new game, but not load an old one?

If the latter is true, then tinkering with the mod likely foobared the save. Try to load an older save (preferably from before you started the mod) and see if it loads.

Finally, which version of Fallout 3 are you using? Before the 1.5 patch, removing a mod that added a perk would cause the game to crash when loading a game if the player had the mod.
