Humor in Skyrim

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 3:45 pm

Anybody else hoping that humor is found in abundance in Skyrim? Some of my favorite quests/characters in Oblivion were ones where humor or sillyness was involved and I think Beth has been pretty good at implementing humor into their games. I'm hoping at least for some quirky npcs or funny easter eggs. Anybody else hoping for this?

One of the funniest things I remember from Oblivion is the Orc who used big words incorrectly. I also liked the DLC where you traverse into the land of Sheogorath. I don't know, I just enjoy stuff like that.

I wish I could come up with some more examples but I have a terrible memory and have been studying all night for a midterm I'm gonna fail tomorrow...Lol

"Do you have any shoes? Ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni!" that one always cracks me up :D

Yeah, I'm sure stuff like that will be in Skyrim ;)

In abundance, I would hope not, I don't want TES to turn into a big comedy. But I guess there should be some humorous things now and then, else I don't know how the dev staff would support all the community "feedback" without a good sense of humour :P

Yeah abundance was probably the wrong word to use but you know what I mean. And I like the fact that they have a sense of humor and can poke fun at themselves every once in awhile.

I hope not. Once I was looking for a good oblivion lp to watch (love TES) and found one that people seemed to love. But I couldn't stand it. All the guy would do is joke around, not actually talk about the game or what he's doing.

People that don't think humor should be in the game are most likely viewing it as mindess "comedy" that actually isn't funny at all and obnoxious. Like all those TV shows with fake audiences that laugh at EVERYTHING. Seriously, that stuff makes me want to shoot everyone in the audience and kill myself.

I want humor but in the Pulp Fiction sense where it's thought out, and subtle, and often followed up by brutality.

A bit of humor here and there would be nice.

The overall tone should be serious, though. Because, after all, a giant friggin' dragon god is trying to destroy the world!

Humor has its place in any world. Who'd want to live in a dull, dreary, lifeless world without humor? :unsure2:

A comment by M'aiq about the questionable uses of the major Sewer systems given no one is able to find a single bathroom, perhaps.

I really hope that you are trolling. >_>

Anyway, Bethesda never left us hanging when it comes to humor in TES and I doubt that they will do so now. :)

I don't mind some 4th wall or gameplay jokes even, but some people can't stand those. Skyrim is serious business.

NPC: "Welcome traveller, to our fair city, I am Lancelot the Captain of the Storm Lancers."
Dovahkiin: "Wow you must be good with a lance."
NPC: "Actually we use staves as stand ins, we sort of forgot how to make them."

NPC: "Sigh, I kind of missed the two piece swimsuits, they only make one piece ones now."

NPC: "Business is getting so hard nowadays as a blacksmith, nobody repairs or buys weapon anymore."

NPC: "Can you actually believe it? They used to let just anyone make their own spells 200 years ago! Where's all the references and citations! How will anyone be sure it wouldn't just blow up in your faces."

Yes, humor...and a hell of a lot of it. That's one another thing that FONV failed. Low intel dialog. I love that kind of crap. SI was great. The only thing wrong...just not enough of it.

"TES has no place for humor"

Well, hell. Trade in those tight underpants for a loose fit loin cloth. Prop your feet up and wish for a stiff breeze.

ur kidding? humor has nothing to with the lore. Even dogs and rats have their version of humor (sounds strange, but its true). Its just basic nature, so no humor at all would be strange. On the other hand too much won't be good. They have to balance it out so that it feels like "everyday humor", the kind you can relate to or seems natural. Like someone else said, the overall tone should be more grave...dragons after knocking on the door after all :woot:

and btw..lusty argonian maid? funny as hell!
