Yeah, I'll pretty much be killin' everything regardless. No sense in putting it in my quest bar journal.

I think there are some ways they could do it. Perhaps if there was some form of tracking mechanism. Or follow a certain animal back to the pack of them and slaughter every one of em.

that would be cool the first time but after it'd be boring repetitive and grindy

Having the option to actually track down hard to find creatures and animals by following tracks in the snow, or on the ground following broken branches and so on could make it a little more fun though. Add the option to cripple the limbs of the enemy and follow the blood trail could be awesome as well. But its a little low on stuff to actually make a guild for it. But selling meat and pelts and so on att market places could be cool.

Not as a guild, but perhaps a club or small faction with a counsel house in some of the cities. To go an extra mile, let's say they have major rewards for taking down legendary creatures and bringing back proof. None of these would merit a quest, however, just something that would feel more like an achievement if you happen to come across it on your own.

Maybe as a Radiant story type quest. For example, if you're Marksmanship and Sneak are your highest skills, you get approached by a local guildsman/craftsman who needs pristine pelts for his trade. He's willing to pay a premium for high-quality skins, meaning you have to kill the target with one arrow. Using a melee weapon will cause too much damage to the skin, as would more than one shot.

I could actually see something close to this that would be pulled off in Radiant Story. If they were to do a quest template involving hunting and those skills, this wouldn't be far from what to expect, along with other types of quests with these two skills of course (most likely assassination related).

A simple hunter's lodge type thing would be fine. A place where they give premium prices for furs and meats. Maybe sell some unique equipment.

A few sidequests from an NPC would be ace.

Huntsman Nord needs you to find a Great Riften Elk and collect it's pelt for him.
*A broad location of the Great Riften Elk has been marked on your map*

There, the animal walks in a set path (that is unbeknownst to you), circling around to repeat the same migratory pattern, stopping occasionally to graze. The only trace of the hunt you can find is it's hoof prints in the snow (all other animal foot prints should be disabled during a hunt as to give you a sense of tracking). You can sneak up on the animal but only as close as, say, fourty yards until it catches your scent. Then, instead of walking peacefully, it darts a long way down the set path and escapes. This way, hunting can only be accomplished through traditional means of bow & arrow (atleast if the prey is a solitary herbivore). If it's something like a brown bear or a frost troll, then things should be much different.

Huntsman Nord needs you to find a White Run Sabretooth Cat and collect it's pelt for him.
*A broad location of the White Run Sabretooth Cat has been marked on your map*

The hunt begins like before with the prey on a set path walking through the map, stopping occasionally to scavenge for easy food. But these animals frequently hide in caves and under the cover of snow. It is quite easy to loose their track and pass them by mistake. If this happens, you may soon realize that the prey is stalking you. If you can survive a suprise attack and fend off the voracious creature, you can resume the hunt as normal or, if you're lucky, kill it with swiftness and strip the prey of it's unique feature.

You have collected Blah Blah's pelt. Return to Huntsman Nord for your reward.
+5 moneys

Edit: Animals that move in groups, such as mammoths, should also be given different styled hunting quests. Maybe you already know their exact location (it most likely being obvious) in the middle of, say, The Pale. You just have to bring the beast down without facing the wrath of the herd.

Awesome. Not at all impossible given the dynamic snow which could be used for tracks or even the new animal behavior system which does even cover migratory paths now. I think Todd mentioned it for the wolves?

It could be fun. Like say you are payed to collect the horns and pelt of a great elk, but you have to sneak up on the herd to get a clean shot. It could involve a great sneaking and marksmen challenge to get a good vantage point while not being spotted by the rest of the herd. And if you didn't get a clean one-hit kill, the pelt would become damaged and worth less money.

Oh, thanks.

Just trying to add something to the thread rather than dismiss it like my first post. I never heard that migratory paths were confirmed. If they are, that's great.

If there is a hunters guild you know who should have written those quests? HUNTERS, Todd knows as well as any of us that not many in that workplace hunt. They should give my grandpa or uncle a call to see what it is hunters look for in a kill. They should be looking at more the whether it's a deer or bear, more that how many points the deer has, or the race of the deer. That is a quest when you get down to the nitty gritty like that. They should call up bass pro shop for sure.

Well, I don't know if it's migratory, but I know for a fact they confirmed wolf packs roaming together, and not even attempting to come at you unless they haven't eaten that day already. This realistic systems go towards just about every bit of wildlife now. Giants are neutral as well.

I think there's a big difference between what they will implement in Skyrim and modern day hunting. Besides, that's not real hunting. Any drunk hillbilly bastard can shoot a deer with a gun. Trust me, I know plenty.

I don't think a whole guild could work, but a hunters lodge and maybe one npc who assigned unique game could be interesting, maybe a special dragon at the end of the questline and a rare bow with very high damage vs. beasts.

That's not at all what I mean, I mean the gentleman sport not the budweiser sport. Yeah, my family members aren't drunk hillbillies either, hmm. I really think that if they do have a hunters guild, it ought to be run by bosmer.

I wasn't aiming that at your family. I'm just saying the devs really have nothing to learn from a Bass Pro Shop.
