Hunting & Crafting/FCOM problem

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:45 am

I have FCOM with all the main packages (MMM + OOO + Frans), and only a couple of small additional mods. I am having some issues with Crafting. Some of the crafting items don't work...for example, nothing happens when I click on a Feather to make fletchings. Some of the Crafting stuff DOES work...I am able to make leather armor, and arrow SHAFTS, but no fletchings.

Most everything else with the combined mods seems to work, just not some of the crafting stuff. I used BOSS for the load order, here is the Wrye Bash dump:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated (kinda new to Wrye Bash so be kind...)

Thanks to the developers of these mods as they really make Oblivion a whole new game!

It actually sounds like it's working right, but it's a little unintuitive. The way arrows work is this: click on the fletching calipers and choose to make arrowheads from something you have in your inventory, click on the fletching calipers to make bone shafts from large bones in your inventory, click on a quill (not the fletching calipers) to make feather arrow flights, and then click on the fletching calipers to actually make arrows from the parts you've now accumulated.

I have definitely tried that, just tried again to make sure. Nothing happens when I click on the Feathers in my inventory (even made sure not to click on "stolen" ones just in case). I have used the same method (click on the object) to sucessfully craft leather hides from animal skins, but nothing happens when I click on feathers.

As part of the same issue (probably) only certain skins work for leather (can't get the Bear Hide to work, but deer hides and wolf hides work just fine); and I understand that the same method is used to create metal nuggets from "plain metal" items like mugs and plates, and that does not work either.

So some of the crafting items work just fine, while some of the others seem broken.

I'm not sure if it's just an issue of terminology or if there's something genuinely weird going on with your game. At no point should you be clicking on something called "Feathers". If you have any feathers, they must be from some other mod. You click on a Quill (has to be a plain quill, not an exquisite quill), which produces "feather arrow flight" items. Then you click on the fletching calipers and choose "Fletch One Arrow" or "Fletch Ten Arrows" to join the various pieces together into arrows.

As part of the same issue (probably) only certain skins work for leather (can't get the Bear Hide to work, but deer hides and wolf hides work just fine)

I have this same behavior, and I think it's normal. Only certain hides work (lion hides, deer hides, wolf hides, boar hides, and I think one or two others). Hides added by other mods will not work.

I understand that the same method is used to create metal nuggets from "plain metal" items like mugs and plates, and that does not work either.

This does sound broken. Clicking on a "Metal Mug" or "Metal Urn" should produce 3 metal nuggets. If it doesn't, then it does sound like there's a genuine problem, though I have no idea what it might be. If no one else pops in here with help, I would suggest posting in the main MMM thread. FCOM doesn't touch the Hunting & Crafting behavior (though it would be nice if it did, so that stuff from OOO creatures could be used for crafting).

The problem is TIE (which edits all the crafting items therebye removing the scripts from them).

Move MMM H&C to after the TIE plugin that edits clutter (I forget which one it is).

I'll go one farther and suggest that you remove TIE-in completely. Best advice from the FCOM thread is that the two do not work well together. Corepc is in the process of creating a new version of TIE4mods which will address this problem.

In my FCOM install, arrow flights come from Feathers, not Quills. Never had TIE, and clicking on a feather makes arrow flights.

Removing TIE makes sense...wasn't too sure about that one to begin with. Nothing else seems to have worked so I will give that a try.

I am assuming I do NOT have to "bash" a saved game for the deactivation to have an effect, or will I have to rebuild the 0.esp patch?

Thanks for the advice.

You will need to rebuild your bashed patch after removing tie in once again..

and wait for tie4mods once again..

Well, now I'm confused. Where do feathers come from? I've never seen them in my game, but I'm fairly certain my FCOM install is functioning correctly. (And I'm not using TIE.) I make silver arrows often, from random (stolen) silver junk, large bones, and quills.

Don't know if this would help, but on my install the Quill item ID 00023D63 gave me a "Feather". So whatever mod changes quills to feathers actually uses the same ID, not a new item.

I've got the FCOM setup and that's about it. No other item-changing mods. Maybe it's an OOO/MMM difference, and the last loaded changes it? Or something from another crafting mod?

That seems to have worked...I can at least build arrows anyhow. Not sure yet what else that process might have messed up, but seems ok so far.

And they are still marked "Feathers" for me (btw, I'm using FCOM v0.9.9 if that might make a difference).

Thanks for the help!

You're probably right . . . I have my Bashed Patch set up to import names from the UOP and OOO, so that may be overriding name changes from MMM.

Very sorry for my confusion earlier. I thought that the "feathers" were different from the quills I'm used to seeing. So . . . go ahead and disregard everything I said. ;)

There's your problem with varying names. I once Merged names by accident and nearly freaked out 'cause everything had wierd names that I wasn't used to. Un-merge Names, and everything should have the proper names. Or leave it merged if you prefer it that way.
