Bethesda are masters of hype. Major gaming sites worship the ground they walk on, and they know it. IGN had dozens of articles pre-release basically amounting to ''HEY THIS IS SKYRIM GUYS NOBODY PLAYED IT YET BUT IT'S AS AWSUM WE KNOW CAUSE IT'S BETHESDA!!!!!''. Remember all those presentations they did for Oblivion, Fallout 3, even Skyrim, that contained outright lies (off the top of my head, have you ever seen a dragon pick up a giant in actual gameplay? No doubt the giant would just swat the annoying lizard and be done with it)? Completely scripted events masqueraded as natural occurences? This (wait, scratch that, those) videos where Todd is being cheered at like he is a rock star, dodging questions all the time? Oh yes, Beth knows how to hype. They deliver to an extent, but it's a fraction of the hype.
And yet their fanbase just asks for me, and they sell tons of copies. The game is important for sales. But the marketing is just as much, if not more, regardless if it's an AAA title or some little indie project. It may be big flashy all-CGI ads, or just plain old word of mouth, but advertising is at least as important to selling the product as the product itself.
And I never pro-order. Ever. This is just asking for dissapointment.
