Hyped about the Skyrim Economy!

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 8:04 am

I heard from Todd that the economy is going to be much more dynamic and that we and the NPCs will have more of an impact on it. For instance when the black smith looks like he's making a sword he really is and it's added to the store inventory, and when someone farms they bring their produce to the store and sell it. Then the supply and demand changes prices as well as disposition and bartering skill. You also being able to farm or mine could help the blacksmith or farmer to effect the economy, there are supposed to be traders between towns that might bring rare goods and change the economy. If any of these npcs get killed or you burn a farm, that will change things too. For me this is all very exciting.

"could sabotage a town's main industry, inflating prices and reducing the availability of goods."

States the various abilities such as farming smithing and mining.

I hope I can farm!

I don't know why, but I love farming in video games. Actually I do know why! Its because the only farming I can do is on my deck!

I WANT FIELDS DAMMIT!

How about turning alchemy into real life alchemy and tie it into the economy. Let's say you actually discover how to make gold, and this impacts the economy by rendering coins worthless as a currency.

No that isn't in the game, and this isn't a suggestion thread, just mentioning what's been confirmed to be in the game.

Edit- Also real life alchemy is actually what's in the game, turning lead into gold is what's fantasy.

If that would happen it would
A. Be outlawed
B. You would get an army of hired people out to kill you
C. You would be the most hated individual in the history of Commerce.

Or they would switch to a less or more valuable metal

so it's a bit more dynamic, and you can flood the market with cheap goods.

this is starting to sound more and more like RuneScape or EVE, only without other players.

I played runesape for years and fail to see at all how this is at all like runescape. In runescape it was all point click and wait then repeat. Even if you farm/smith and all those other things I doubt it will be anything like runescape

You can do what you want, if you "flood the market with cheap goods" who are you effecting. The npcs and how does that effect you, we don't know yet, also you're not the only one buying and selling goods, and not every town sells the same goods. So there really is no correlation between skyrim and RS can't say about EVE because I've never had the chance to play it. The only similarity is you can actually do mundane task if you choose. Which you have no need to do if you have no desire, you can very literally go through the entire game and not bother mining wood cutting or farming.

Sound absolutly amazing... my fear however is that it isn't going to be as good as it sounds. Please prove me wrong

Being able to affect the game worlds economy is something unique that I am unsure exists in any other game to the same level of detail.... any forum readers feel free to correct me!

As long as I can dump my loot without having to jump through too many hoops, I basically don't care much.

But, then, I've never really played many "trade sim" profiteering games, so I don't care about trying to manipulate economies. I just want to be able to sell my junk. :)

It sounds like a lot of fun indeed, it's features like this that when taken all together give the elder scrolls games such wonderful immersion, count me in as very excited :)

IT's called X3: Terran Conflict. In that game you can build a multi-system trade empire consisting of numerous factories and huge mega-complexes. You can also destroy space stations and the like with a fleet of battleships, so, if you wanted, you could go through a few sectors and blow up every station that contributes to the economy.

What i'm gonna love is that he stated that you can also do the oppsite and ruin fields which can ruin the ecomeny. Also if its gonna be with npc's it makes having gold always on you good, cause you might see a nice blade in the shop come back later to find it gone because some npc got it first. I so can't wait

WOW I didn't even think about that lol :P, so that'd mean if someone got the weapon you were working hard to get you can try and track him down and....steal it :D of course then sell it and buy it back so you feel as though you got it legit.

Wow, seems like a bunch of people really don't like the idea. I love it, but if you don't like doing mundane tasks, don't do them and the NPCs will take care of that for you. It also makes you think twice before randomly going on an NPC killing spree just to satiate a moment of bloodlust. I think gamesas , with each new TES release, is trying to give more and more choice and options (and consequences to your actions) to keep making the games more and more open. I think it's a great idea for roleplaying and I also like that they don't force you into it. If you hate it, don't participate in mining or farming or smithing. But I have a feeling that at the beginning of the game even the naysayers may find themselves picking up a job or two just to get some cold hard gold in their pocketses.

Anyone who wants the world to feel a little bit more believable, who wants a little more life in the towns. TES is about more than goblin hunting, getting their loot and selling it at any price.

I quite like this system. I wonder if robbing stores effects the economy.. If so then it seems that the only city I won't steal from is the city I live in.
