ICE GANGS RETURN

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 10:05 am

I expect some people think that Goalie Ledoux and the ice gangs of "Sudden Death Overtime" were silly and not worth bothering with.

But I was a BIG fan of Boston Bruins Hockey in the early 1970's (re: Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito and the rest) and wouldn't mind seeing Boston Garden hosting Ice Fights with the Ice Gangs duking it out.

Anyone else share my psychosis?

Well I guess I was right that Ice Gangs Aren't worth bothering with.

I do wonder if Boston Garden will be still standing, though.

Red Wings fan here, have been for a long time. I'm pretty amused by the wastelander's interpretation of hockey. Wonder if we'll get modable hockey sticks as a melee option this time or just more masks. Bladed goalie stick would be neat.

To be honest Im guessing 99 percent of people killed Goalie for his Mask. I know I did.

However I do like the concept of Ice Gangs and sport in post -apocalyptica.

Yes.

(looks sheepishly at his feet)

Even though I sort of shot them as well. But look it was not my fault Clover was with me, and I thought man she would look cute in it and maybe I would not have to hear about Eulogy for like a minute if I got her a present. You guys know how it is.

I actually thought it was a pretty good idea, and I always let them go about their business.

It would be cool if that was what the Arena-style event was like in Fallout 4. Ice rink blood sport. Or an actual hockey mini-game. It doesn't always gotta involve killing people, you know.

Considering we have never found a Sports Venue in the game so far (at least not that I recall ever seeing a Baseball field (not counting the dustbowls we find in FO3), Hockey Stadium, Basketball Stadium or other, I had always wondered if Sports at least in the FO universe were not as .. prominent as their were in our reality.

One thing I've always figured, people need entertainment, some sort of stimulation, or they go crazy. Organized sports is a good venue for this.

Imagine meeting teams from across the Boston Wasteland, and maybe the surrounding territories to compete in a league, signing on with one of the teams out there.

Diamond city is built in a baseball stadium..... so a first for Fallout.

OP: I can see a gladiatorial arena, but not an organized sport like baseball or hockey.... Unless of course the losing team gets killed.

The Gladiator pit is about what sport appears to be in Fallout. We both have the Arena in the Pitt with its added time limit incentive with the radioactive barrels and the Thorn in F:NV which is more akin to the traditional arena (if you could classify anything in Fallout being traditional).

Bloodsport is definetly the key sport of the Future. Its more than likely in Diamond City we will find the location where we say that female gladiator with both arms up (and I still like the idea of Baseball now being a sport where you use a bat to literrally trying and knock the ball (someones head) off their shoulders. Sports as we know them should be twisted mockeries of themselves.

Considering what other things the wastelanders misinterpret (Abraham Washington's "lesson" about the Declaration of Independence being a prime example) I can absolutely see them coming up with twisted versions of our sports (there was a bunch of Raiders running the bases, with the bats in hand, on an over grown Baseball field in F3).

Fallout to me has always been about the corruption of the American 'dream'. Taking ideas , twisting them, and coming out with .. ICE GANGS and New different starred US flags and so on. Taking history and giving it a tug.

I liked the hockey terms Ledoux used in his language. He tells of how every city had an Ice Gang and thousands would show up to watch them all duke it out in giant ice arenas, we aim to bring those days back!

I have to admit, his mask was hard to pass up and I slaughtered him for it too !

If I didn't kill him, it would be kinda cool if he eventually brought those days back !

Edit: for clarity

Its part of the allure of Fallout. A) That it isnt another Fantasy RPG :), B) That many people are drawn to post -apocalypica because of 'what happens after the world goes to crap?' , C) and in the case of Fallout what happens if we shove 40's and 50's American style/culture into 2277?
