Ice projectile attachment — What the ... ?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:56 am

This is a game breaker for me unless I go back about 8 hours of game time to a previous save. I'd say definitely this is a bug, an affect that the game failed to clean up after my injury healed.

There is a glowing ice projectile about a metre long sticking out of the back of my knee with its point showing at the front of the knee. With all that light and sparkly particles, I doubt I could be a stealth player until this enigma is resolved. Maybe stealth is not compromised but role-play-wise, I can't carry on as if nothing had happened.

I have checked for any active effects. I have changed clothes. I have fast travelled. Nothing helps. It seems quitting and starting TESV from where I left off has no affect on my attachment.

I don't want to throw away yesterday's play but it looks like I might have to. I'm open to suggestions.

Turn into a werewolf... if you are one. This should fix it.

Not a werewolf, not yet anyway.

So I just leave it? Ignore it? But everyone can see me coming. Sneak is not possible with all this light and bright spraying particles.

Okay, I'll kid to myself it ain't there and ignore it.

Try switching to 3rd person and have something hit you for a bit. I found getting hit in 3rd person fixes this sometimes. Other than that, the wearwolf trick works all the time.

Well I think you have to stop being an adventurer now and take up guard duty. The number one reason among guards for becoming guards seems to be knee injuries while adventuring to hear them tell it.

funny, i havent run into a single glitch like that... and i've been hit by alot of arrows and ice shards.

instead, i had to suffer the "bloated save file" problem... which is REALLY game-breaking... i cant continue my character or it'll corrupt the save, most likely... and that makes starting over pointless, cause every character will suffer this after about 20 hours or so... not nearly enough time for me to play a fully developed character.

so... im stuck, unable to play skyrim at all anymore, until bethesda fixes the ps3's "bloated save file" problem.

Are you making fun of my Nord guard char? That is exactly what happened to mine. I am super role-playing on it....

I'm on PC but old habits die hard. I have always ensured my saves folder never has more than about 10 files in it in addition to the Autosaves. I am wondering if that is partly the problem for PC users nearing the 70 hours game time where they start getting corrupted saves. I am on 65 hours now. Sorry for going a bit off-topic.

Intresting. 'sixchange' might do it? Okay, I shall try that. Thanks, Shasow.

OP, have you tried reloading an old save from before the problem, then reloading the most recent save?

I've gotten rid of the ice projectile problem several times by simply taking all the arrows in my inventory and sticking them in a container (so they're no longer on my character). At that point the ice projectile vanishes from my character's body and I can safely reclaim my arrows from the container.

They go away, with time. My mage had no less than two of these giant ice spears jutting out of his face for about a week in game.

Just do the companion quest up until the part where you turn into a warewolf and problem solved. Had this issue also twice and without the warewolf transformation I couldn't have gotten rid of that arrow that is stuck on my neck.

Did you try removing the arrows from your inventory? It resolves the problem instantly. I put up with having an icicle stuck in my chest for about a day before I tried that particular solution and it worked. The next time I encountered the same problem (today, actually) I immediately went to the nearest container, tossed all my arrows into it, and once again it did the trick. There's no need to run around with this for a week just waiting for it to vanish on its own (or bother messing with console codes).

Nice. I removed all arrows from Inventory. The ice shard went as well. Thank you all. I'll remember that one.

just thought i would add......

Both the Arrows and the Ice shards will go away on there own. Time does it ,as does getting Hit by the same thing again. Try to avoid using the console. :)

I had an arrow in the chest and arm for quite a while until I had the idea to try transforming into a werewolf. That solved the problem.

Edit. I'm late. Waaay late.
