every hit i do with ice spike = stagger so i basically stun lock enemies till they die and barely cost any manna

ice spear cost huge amount of manna does about the damage 2 ice spikes do and never staggers .-.

whats purpose of ice spear .-.

also the only enemy to be immune to frost atatcks so far has been a frost atronach and for some reason this play through all dragons = ice breathers when my other 7 characters had fire breathing .-.

It costs less yes, there is a huge problem with the cost of the adept/expert/master destruction spells, forcing you to have a good 80% cost reduction to use the expert spells.

Ice spike doesn't cut it at high levels, you'll eventually need to upgrade. Endless stagger just isn't fun.

Also the majority of skyrims enemies resist frost, just so you know. Draugr and nords both have 50% resistance to frost as do other frost animals, trolls bears etc.

I don't think Frost Trolls have frost resist.

I do know nords, draugr, ice wraiths, skeletons, ice-shouter dracs, and vampires all have resist frost. Thankfully, the slowdown effect does not appear to be affected by the resist frost, so it's still good for slowing down nord bandits charging at you.

And the Apprentice projectile spells have the highest cost/damage ratio of all the Destruction spells, so I agree with the OPer's assessment. The rest of them get gradually more costly, culminating in the nigh-impractical Master spells.

I'm sure he's playing on Adept. Crank it up to Expert or Master and see how quickly you get frustrated with frost magic.
