Uh, hi. Progress is slower than it was the first time around. I finished armors, and I've got through shirts, robes, and skirts today. I use ambient light in the CS, and a lightsource in Nifskope (I tried to make them match, not sure how effective I was).

I also fixed the common2 mournhold shoes, which lacked a texture for the cuff and the sole of the shoe. I'm so proud of myself for figuring out how to add a base texture in Nifskope! :D Yeah, anyway, now it looks good.

? The conversion using dtx3 went fine. I guess I just need to get someone's help with the black/white balance thingy that hrnchamd was talking about. I don't have a good eye for that, it seems.

I meant make a few icons and look at them ingame before proceeding with everything else. It was just a joke. :)

Double post, but maybe I've some info for you. I use Paint.net to edit curves to change lightness and colour.
Just open an image in Paint.net, click on the menu "Adjustments" and then "Curves". You can play with the windows opened this way to adjust your image. There's also a handy Reset button if you make strange things. :)

Ah. The thing with the clothing is that I have to do all the shirts and robes at once, because the positioning I do in the Render window gets all reset whenever I reload my plugin... so, I can't interrupt the work there.

I think everything will come out well this time around. The main problem last time was the brightness and the "flatness" of the icons. The light shadow should help round out the items, and not fiddling with brightness/contrast/saturation should keep everything looking good. And if the icons are still too bright, I can use the adjustments/curves thingy to tweak them.

Thanks for the Paint.NET tip! I'll have to experiment....

They are there, I just hid them. I wanted to use my photobucket stat-tracking to see who's been looking at my Craigslist ad photos. :shifty:

No progress this summer. Making icons wasn't fun, I burned myself out on it. Haven't been modding much at all... feels like I've got my life back. >.<;; Might start this up again, might not. No promises. :)

Throw the dark ones into one folder and the too bright ones into another for processing. Put all the icons onto a dark background and then play with the curves tool. Brightness/contrast sliders are untouched these days, they clip so you can lose your black point / white out things too easily. Bend the curve down in the middle and back up at the highlight side. I would post an example but yeah.

Would you (or someone else) be willing to do this? I just can't get myself to redo all those icons. Need to work with what I've got. I don't mind redoing a score or so if they are really bad, but I just cannot do 600 icons again. I don't know how I was able to do it in the first place.

Reply here or drop me a PM, and I can send a link (to mediafire) with the icons.

EDIT: Yes, I know, none of the links to the screenshots work.

Alaisiagae! It's possible to set up a batch script thing to do it. If you send the originals then it will be filtered and compressed without too much problem. If you could send an example of what brightness you are aiming for, as well.

Woot! :D I've bundled them up http://www.mediafire.com/?ltj0hp2csv0wyjd. There are still in their folders (armor icons in the "a" folder, etc).

I had started reworking these, so I think I know a few that have the right brightness (i.e. I didn't adjust brightness/contrast when making the icon). They are the armor icons modified 5/28 and after.
Examples:
heavy leather boots
daedric armor icons
dwemer armor icons
imperial steel icons
Netch
Nordic fur
templar
trollbone
towershields
bearclaw helm

EDIT: almost all the screencaps I had I ended up deleting over the summer. For the curious new-comers: http://i468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/Alaisiagae/Mod%20Screenshot%20MW/Misc/new_icons.jpg

With Hrnchamd's help, the project has been saved! :celebrate:

If anyone has some spare time, I'd really appreciate having a few people test this out. Maybe use the ToddTestCell to access all MW and BM items.
I need to make sure:
- all the icons look good. Not too bright, not too dark. If you need an example of something that's too bright, I can show you screenies of that.
- if there are any vanilla icons showing (could mean I missed an item, or that the icon file name has a typo)

I'd also like feedback, like if the image in the icon obscures the item quantity number too much, or if the icon doesn't quite match the item (i.e. the image in the icon doesn't help you identify the item it is representing). Play with them for a bit, let me know if there's anything that could use some improvement.

(If you look at these in Irfanview, the icons will look sorta pixelated and blocky, but they look fine in-game.)

You can volunteer in this thread, or PM me. I'll get around to sending a PM with a link to the file. Feel free to take and share screenshots. I guess you could call this a "beta" trial. Your help will help speed this mod along to release. :) Please don't volunteer to just get early access - I really need you provide me with feedback (kinda like quality assessment).

I might not log in again tonight, so don't worry if you don't hear anything from me until tomorrow.

The link seems broken :(

I was looking forward to trying it out. In my game, Ralen Hlaalo's body is crushed to death by thousands of pounds of loot :)

In this case, over 600 little things...

Would you like to test them? I've got one volunteer so far. The more eyes, the better! Thanks to povuholo's feedback, I've already revised several icons to increase the quantity visibility.

EDIT: Here are some of his screenshots:
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5445/mgescreenshot68.jpg
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6203/mgescreenshot67.jpg (emerald, heather, and pearl have been revised. I'm going to redo the roobrush, too)

EDIT: Aaaaaah. I hate roobrush! Such a crappy texture, I can barely make an icon out of it. :sigh:

There is no download link. Volunteers for quality assessment will have a download link PMed to them. The expectation for this "beta" is that I'm provided with feedback so that I can improve the icons for the final release. :)

Could someone please test tribunal items? I didn't do a good job of testing those.

Alaisiagae, I sent you some feedback. I forgot to add that the Fire Salts, Frost Salts, and Kwama Cuttle could also be more rounded. Although they are currently an accurate representation of the game meshes.

PS. This mod looks amazing!

Hey, PeterBitt, I haven't gotten any feedback from you regarding the icons.

If anyone else wants to volunteer for technical testing, let me know. Some of the ingredient vanilla textures are so svcky, I want to make sure the icons work okay, especially the ones I had to crop (heather, roobrush, etc.). I can't get them perfect - the textures svck and/or the mesh is too big - so I'm just hoping they are an improvement over the vanilla icon.
