An RP idea, and some major deviations from the RP Norm.

Post » Mon Sep 06, 2010 5:51 am

know, the last RP I made, epic fail. I realize that fact, though it was moreso because I tried to run the whole thing myself.

The first thing I want to do that deviates from the RP norm, is I am NOT going to allow more than five members. I have noticed that any RP with too many RPers ultimately results in a rediculous number of side-plots that derail the plot line. Most of the time, too many people are invited into RP's to keep it goping, but what is really needed, is RPers who ACTUALLY REPLY. By that, i mean regularly, not just "When they're in the mood.".

Deviation #2, LINEAR PLOT. I know, everyone(Inculding myself.Hell, I'm the worst.) gives Josh Gro-Grahz crap because his RPs are always too mundane, and get too off-topic. This is because he never decides on a LINEAR STORY. It isnt his fault, a lot of people tend to object to that, and dont join if the story seems too "Constricting". But trust me, Linear=Stable, Stable=Doesnt Fail.

Deviation the Third:Rigid entry requirements. I swear, I will background-check the hell out of anyone who seeks to join. I will look through every post in every RP they haave been in the past to make sure they are consistent, can spell correctly, and doesnt derail storylines. I will do to entrants what the US Patriot Act allowed the Bush Administration to do do everyone in the country.(Yeah, im a F***ing Democrat. Dont even think of starting anything.)

Now then, on to the RP idea, I have the sketchy framework for it in my mind, and I'm open to suggestions in both PM and response form.

"Regulating the Regulators"

The lone wanderer has helped to improve the wasteland greatly, providing a decent supply of fresh, clean water. The Brotherhood of steel's extra manpower, thanks to the destruction of the enclave, has allowed them to turn their attention to the Super Mutants and the crminal raiders and mercenaries. Crime in the wasteland has been deminished greatly, and the super muant population has been pushed back to the capitol building, the talon company holed up in Fort Banister, with the brotherhood keaping both groups almost entirely sieged.

But where are the Regulators in all this? Well, after the brotherhood turned their attention towars crime in the wastes, the Regulators needed a new source of income. Before this turnaround, they would kill crimanols, and keep the caps and supplies looted off of them. Now, they needed someone else to turn their guns upon. They chose those that the wasteland would find...undesireable. The ghouls, the poor wasters, the lone scavengers that lived day to day. Anyone that no one would really miss.

But some noticed. Now it is time for the true peacekeepers to come. For those that once defended the wastes, it is now time for the wastes to be defended from them.

So, we all clear? Any of you got objections. I'm perfectly open to advice or criticism as far as my ideas are concerned. I'm pretty sure I have good ideas here.

PS:The political thing was a joke. The first guy who flames me over it, I will openly spam and troll to death. And everyone here knows that once I decide to troll, your internet-life is at an end.

Liking this idea man, I too have noticed how most Rps just die because of too many people. Vault 34 (i think it's called that) was a perfect example of what you were complaining about. That too many people joined, resulting to annoying side stories. The regularity of posting was quite poor too. The thing I hate the most is the evil characters in Rps, they really annoy me and ruin the whole Rp. Ok, that was off topic, my bad.

Anyway, yeah man, you should go with this Sannes, I'm certainly interested and I know you'll be dedicated to make this Rp run on course.

I don't know how much of a deviation, it is. Mainly because that's why I've done in the past with some of my RP's. Mostly at the beginning of last year, but considering how it is now, I guess it's not bad to bring it back. Though considering the people still hanging around here, I don't know how much of a group you'll get. I mean it's kinda changed to where people want to follow the RP Creator's idea, to people being able to expand their character into a small side story as well as still sticking with the main story.

All I can do, is wish you good luck on this Sannes.

Thats why I said eviations from "The Norm". The norm back then isnt the norm now, and lately RP's have died extremely frequently. Its a return to the system that worked, more than way out there, brand new ideas.

Iain, Stranglelove, thanks for the support.

Also, Iain, your right about evil charicters svcking ass. I'm okay eith guys who arent entirely jesus, but I hate charicters who are APPARENTLY evil.

Ya, that was pretty pathetic hypocrisy Sannes.

On a lighter note, the idea seems pretty cool. Just taking a shot in the dark here, but we'll just be ordinary wastelanders who are trying to fend off the Regulators. Right? Or will we form some sort of vigilante group? I like the first idea better, honestly.

Nice for you to join us, kikai, and touche. I'll edit it in a sec.

Not the first one, because that wouldnt be much of an RP, since they would be like..tracking people down or vanything. No, we'll be a vigilante group..sort of. Mostly, we'll all be doing it because at some people, the regulators gave us a reason. For the aformentioned Jesus-like charicters, it could just be for the good of the wastes, but for those of us deeper into the shades of grey, there has to be a good reason.

Well, I can certainly think of many reasons why Rachael would want in on such a thing, but I grow so very weary of filling out character sheets. I'd have to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why she'd trust a group of humans, as well, but the plot-o-matic hasn't been fired up in a while so it should be good on fuel.

That is, assuming you'd allow me in.

Of course I would. You RP well and consistently, so theres no reason not to. People I personally know wont F*** it up are exempt from a few of the background check rules.

Glad that theres so much interest. I have a lot of work to do at the moment(Teachers are trying to make up for time lost due to snow), but you can expect a sign up sheet and a full plot intro to be out in a couple of days.

TeeHee, touche, and I wished that that had finished out as well, but alas for horrible management. That whole fiasco was what got me to start this idea in the first place.

Venix, it would be nice if you would clear up your capitalization and exclimation before entering. I cant be too biased, or I would be too much like the man I wanted dead for the last five years..(His name rhymes with George W. Bush...wait, that is his name.) To answer your question, we will all be people who were in some way wronged by the now-uncaring regullators, and wanting to strike back. Jansen, my charicter and leader of this whole campaign, is saving no expense hiring the best of the best, in addition to those who volunteer.*Cough*Possible Backstory*Cough*

No, mainly, the glaring problem is the lack of capitalization. Just capitalize the first word of every sentence, as it makes it a LOT easier to read. And please capitalize the word "I", rather than just leaving it as "i".

Good idea Sannes but i would just like to offer some advice, I have had a few RP's fail becuase with such a small number of entrants ( I only ever seem to get seven max, don't know what that says about my RPing but hey the goal is to improve) it is difficult to ge too far unless everyone pulls thier weight post wise. If you can get people posting regluarly enough this could be very good and I would love to join if you would have me but if you don't I would rather not spend time on a character sheet for no reason.

Yeah, it's good when people regularly post in Rps, but timezones can really be annoying. For example: when two or three people are in the same timezone and they make a lot of posts, leaving the guy in the different timezone totally left out. Which is usually me :(.
Anyway, I'm sure Sannes will be a great host :)

I plan on getting it up by thursday, tops. I SWEAR! I'm sorry about the procrastination, but freshman year...it takes a damn lot out of you! And Iain, I'll make sure to pace it well enough for you people out of the time zone of the americas, and If you guys PM me about it, I can hold off on Plot-Advancing posts until everyones ready. I plan on leaving room for plenty of charicter development.

Eh, I dunno if it's just a reoccuring spelling mistake or a simple misunderstanding, but 'charicter' is spelt 'char[u]a[/b]cter'. Just thought I'd mention it because I've seen it a few times in your posts.

Other than that, it's quite a nice idea, I had an idea of doing a tribal RP where it was focused on a small group of people leaving their tribe to search for...Something. It was going to be more about the journey and the character development than the action or the goal. But dependent on what the situation is with my time and plans by Thursday, I may or may not give this a shot. I'd rather not join if I know I might not be able to post regularly considering you're only having a few RPers. Good luck nonetheless.

Actually, I'd like to propose something.. unique, perhaps. Since we want to keep this going and we're worried about timezones and the fact that you, and likely others, have classes and other important things taking up your time, I think this would be a good idea.

You've seen how I like to post, usually several paragraphs, sometimes more. What if we do that and only require everyone to at least post once a day, but their post has to be a few paragraphs. I RP like this with a few friends of mine and we end up editing the RP's when they're done to make them into actual stories. (If you know where Slof's site is, you can see several stories there I've written with her and her with another friend of ours, in this very same fashion). They usually end up very long, novel-length most of the time, and take months to complete, but we have fun and only the occasional bout of writer's block puts a spanner in the works. Granted, ours are more interactive stories since we will plan what is going to happen and decide on plot points ahead of time, but we've finished many stories this way. The format works well with a small group of people (though I've only written with two other people--three total--before, but I can't see why it wouldn't work with five or six people as well).

Of course, this requires everyone to apply themselves and take responsibility for sticking around through the whole thing, which is why it works much better with a smaller group of people. If everyone joining could commit to such an endeavor, then I don't see why it couldn't be done this way. I can even create a new subforum on my own forums for discussion and the like since we can only have one thread here.

I just really would like to be able to follow an RP to its conclusion here and am willing to help out where needed. Hell, I'm even willing to beta for anyone who needs it. I've run an RP before doing that for a couple of the people and it works out fine (plus it helps people learn to write well if they have someone proofreading their posts for them).

Thsts an amezing propozition, Kikai. I'm not going to accept little "Between Classes" posts that do way too much with little real description or plot. I'll have the sign-up ready by tomarrow. Just hang in there.
