RP Idea- Discussion Thread (Have a peek)

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:14 pm

So I was thinking about the usual adventure driven, "good guy" rp's that float around the threads, when I realized that maybe an rp involving the exact opposite could maybe spark the interest of some of the members on here.

The plot goes like so:

We'd rp as a group of smugglers/drug traffickers/slavers etc... trying to smuggle/traffick some goods to someone or something. I know it sounds a little rough around the edges, which of course is the purpose for this thread. The only thing being that there a group of Imperial agents working to root out and find each of us. Slowly the group works to keep both their goods and their own hides from being discovered/captured. I already have a name for the rp but I'd like to work out the kinks and get a good bad guy adventure/quest rp out. It wouldn't require completely available members and I plan on avoiding members v.s member combat by only allowing one or two people to play as the Imperial scouts. It'd be called Criminal Minds. I of course want to keep the primary quest as flexible as possible for potential side-quests and plenty of character-to-character interaction.

So, what do you guys think?

It sounds solid. And fun. But I remember seeing that title, Criminal Minds, somewhere before. But this would be an RP I would join.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it might be a show resembling Law & Order. Either way, it represents the rp effortlessly so I'm all for the title. Of course, if anyone can think of a better one I'd gladly take it into consideration.

Sounds good. Woulld you have a province in mind for this? Or will it be open game? And will there be a final destination for the smugglers items? Would the smugglers be able to hire bounty hunters or hitmen against the scouts to make the hunters the hunted?

Eh. I'm afraid not. In all reality, it's suppose to be a high-speed, intense survival/criminals on the lamb rp. The final destination would be revealled in the OP and as far as a province goes, I was thinking either Morrowind, Cyrodiil, or maybe somewhere a little less traversed by the rp community. Suggestions anyone?

To add a little more danger i'd rather not know whats being smuggled, especially if i'm a scout chasing them, I'd rather plan for the worse and hope for the best so to speak. The worse being that they are smuggling something that could lead to events as destructive as the Oblivion crisis, the best being they are just two bit smugglerrs pushing some drugs.

Well, you wouldn't know, but that is what you would suspect.

Then again, this RP would be hard to do in a certain manner. The characters aren't "all knowing", and you would have to have mature, dedicated RPers. This is possible.
Besides, Moon sugar smuggling is at a high rate. Now, how would Imperial agents know of the smugglers? Most of them are caught by the guard. Would there be, perhaps, a drug war or something similar to Mexico?

I agree. I plan to have the smugglers, all but one or two of course, be completely oblivious as to what they're smuggling. haha

It's a new, fresh idea. I like it, although it would need some improvement. It would need a good story base for me to join. Well, actually, I am already at my max, so I probably couldn't join anyways. :(

Instead of thinking of them as scouts think of them as detectives of FBI agents. Its their jobs to know this stuff, they look in the right places and talk to the right people until they get a lead, when they check their lead out they follow it assuming its a strong enough one that might lead to an arrest. I wouldnt mind playing one of these guys -- especially if we start off in a city where we're able to interogate people and what not.

Of course, I wouldn't mind this going on, so long as it didn't happen to every poor little Billy and Susie you guys stumbled onto. Also, I'll have to make it ever-so-clear that I'm the one who decides who gets interrogated and what not. So I'm assuming you'd like to rp as a detective Solidor? That's one. I'll only be accepting maybe one or two others for that position. . Of course, you all know this means you'll be working together, so harmonized posts will be expected. If Solidor does join he'll be in charge of the group of detectives. I want you guys to stay organized. I'd like an update of what each of you has in mind, via PM. If you'd rather not handle this responsibility Solidor I can pass it to someone more willing. The choice is yours. I'll flesh out a lengthy and descriptive OP and a set of rules. I'm going to be nitpicking character sheets so please don't send me a load of crap or I'll happily refuse. (hehe :hehe:)

I'm actually writing a fanfiction in a detective/mystery theme so this will be god practice I hope.

I'm going with con-man Imperial by the name of Atticus Finch. Once a great novelist, now a conniving criminal. Kinky collaberation? I think so!

I personally like the idea of the smugglers being ignorant to their 'merchandise'. It would leave open certain possibilities such a bounty hunter from, say, Morrowind coming to wherever in search of someone wanted by the underworld (whom depends on the time of the tale i.e. Orvas Dren, Cammona Tong). To get back undetected (because carrying a captive between provinces for a Crime Lord wouldn't endear one to the authorities) the hunter(s) have to hire smugglers. Many, many ideas and possibilites open up with it so my vote is for that method. I'll enjoy reading this story immensely, I think. I've started passing up a whole lot of other stories because, quite honestly, I'm tired of all the vampires and do-gooders in games and RP, here and elsewhere.

Kudos for a good idea, Lord Dren. I look forward to watching it all unfold.

The plot(s)(And I know, I'm tired of rp's starting with the same thing. "The Oblivion Chrisis has just ended and...blah blah blah):

Morrowind Plot

(As you reach your place of rest, you begin to settle down. Before you can manage to bed for the night, you find a neatly folded letter sealed with a wax stamp under your pillow. It reads as follows:)

Our art is a 'treachery' to some -- those who spat at the feet of peasants and flaunted their fortune before us. Yes, we all start from somewhere lowly. But talent cannot be hindered by social status or barred by the ability to purchase a manor the size of Vivec. That's what it's to be labelled -- talent. I've seen for myself how the local guard ignore the pleas of harrassed and struggling merchants, constantly antagonized by greedy Imperial dogs. I've made it my life's mission to take each and every thing they love from them, just as they do to others. I've formulated a rough plan to obtain something of precious value from the East Empire Company; a recent discovery of theirs that will guarantee my wealth. I cannot succeed without help. I ask that you find the courage in yourself to join me in my mission to provide these people of obscure and meaningless luxuries with reason to be humbled each every time they pass a beggar in the streets. So much in fact that they feel the need to tip their hats and offer their vaults of gold to the unfortunate. Please trust me when I say you will be greatly rewarded for your service. Although I know it's rare among our kind, there shall be honor in the deeds we're performing. I cannot tell you what the item in question is, for reasons of security and a blatant lack of trust. If you decide to join my party, please meet me at the Southwall Cornerclub in Balmora. I'll be the 'slick one'. Please discard this letter properly after reading.

Cyrodiil Plot

(As you roam the streets of the Imperial City, you hear a man calling out to a crowd of few. They toss whatever they can at him, accusing him of supporting the wretched. You know exactly what it is he preaches. His words are as follows:

"They've told us to settle down have they? The Imperial dogs wish to see us all of common-wealth? Yet they spit at us and call us worthless. We steal from the needy, kill the poor, taunt the will of the Gods, and WE are the criminals? Surviving is an instinct we've mastered in our own right. Misfortune smiles on us yet ignores those of heavy pockets and full stomachs. The Drunken Dragon Inn. The Drunken Dragon Inn. The Drunken Dragon Inn. This is where our deed of good shall take place. To all who are interested, join me."

(Although his message is confusing, it is evident that something of importance is going to happen. Something your skills have been honed to better yourself in doing. Perhaps you'll pay the Inn a visit.)

Elsweyr Plot

What? To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the great classic pieces of american literature. Its famous for a reason; why did you dislike it?

Looks like a solid concept Dren. A gritty and brutal criminal adventure RP would serve as a fresh breath against the normal hero adventure RP, I'll need to start thinking up some possible characters :P

A good idea, my friend, I too would like to see some darker characters in RPing. And despite some of the others' trepidations, I would very much like to have it take place in Senchal, or perhaps Daggerfall. I really do love Khajiit lore :D

Instead of thinking of them as scouts think of them as detectives of FBI agents. Its their jobs to know this stuff, they look in the right places and talk to the right people until they get a lead, when they check their lead out they follow it assuming its a strong enough one that might lead to an arrest. Sounds interesting, though being a smuggler sounds pretty fun too. I'll think about it, if no one else wants to be a detective I would be happy to play the role. If, that is, it's okay with Solidor.

:P Quite the name for a character, Dren. Atticus was a very important character in a very good book :D I just finished reading it a few weeks ago.

A fun idea. Hope to see a complete plot line up soon. Also quick question. I know you want more interactions between the smugglers, detective work, and other things not related to combat, but could someone possibly play a guard for the smugglers. More a mercenary(s) hired to keep peace not only between the smugglers, but to help in any possible fights if the option of flight isn't an option.

I love the idea.

And I have an idea for it. Chapters would be implemented as sort of missions, like lets say we were going to raid (insert Settlement/City), you would make a chapter like, Pillaging of Pelagiad or something. I'd love to join man, I love pirate Rp's!
