Idea for Co-Op Fallout

Post » Sun Sep 04, 2011 9:09 pm

I think a great way to implement Co-Op in Fallout is to link two gamers characters together from the start of the game, like a companion. But make it affect each other when something happens to one it affects the other,( such as death sending both back to the load screen)... It would only be one character to another and a new character would be able to link to someone new. The players would share loot, money, and xp MMO style but would interact in the same open world setting simultaneously. It would also make for interesting quest lines based on things like character creation choices to determine how the two met and why they are now traveling the wasteland together. It would also help solve the usually spotty A.I. companions that we have had in the past. I also believe that this would compel more unique tactics and possible plot issues than just one person playing solo. I also believe that if you set the game somewhere like Hong Kong or New York with lots of interior spaces and maybe the ability to stay in-touch via some kinda of modified PiP-Boy link like the radio but with a transmitter, it would help increase tension and make exploration of said venues exciting, fresh, and appealing in a new way. I also believe this kind of Co-Op would be fantastic for gamers like myself who like the challenge and depth of the single player but wish to share with their close friends also. If someone from Bethesda could implement even some of this idea without an actual MMO format I personally would be humbled and excited far beyond belief and imagination. Also if anyone has constructive feedback or criticism I would love to have it added and possibly see our ideas make it to a Fallout game.

I would never want a CoOp or Multiplayer mode in any official Fallout game.

*But if there had to be one (begrudgingly), then I think it should be PVP with limited support for tenuous (and exploitable) brief alliance between players... But that the other player could have the chance to bribe away your NPCs if they had the stats and/or caps for it. Also they should be able to accept directly opposing quests ~like "protect the mayor" / "Kill the Mayor", and be able to adventure independently in separate locations; And this should give them the option to booby trap locations that they have looted, so that when the other player happens on it, they may open a locked safe to find a motion detector mine, or other such trap.

Thanks for those that send me to the MMO... but the point of this is to avoid a full MMO experience.. My idea is for 2 people at a time.

If you do co-op The feel of fallout will disappear....Fallout is about you and the environment....Not a partner

I have only one question for everyone who says its about you and the environment... and it goes back to what I was saying... What about the companions you pick up? Why couldn't a real player take one of their places but with better ramifications for their death besides you lose your walking backpack or extra damage dealer? Its still you and the environment.. you just replace the A.I. with one person you try to trust and get by with.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/fi/thumb/8/88/Fallout-_Brotherhood_of_Steel_Box.jpg/250px-Fallout-_Brotherhood_of_Steel_Box.jpg It's not letter by letter what you suggested, but it is co-op (I don't think I could've played it, when I did, without a friend by my side). Please let this be the only one... The gaming market is teeming with multiplayer games already, more than it needs or is asked for, let the few remaining singleplayer only games keep their way, and remain focused about what they do.
