An idea I wanted to throw out there

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:29 am

I've been using the Romance mod for quite some time but have never allowed my character to actually become pregnant. There are a number of reasons for this but one of them is because for a number of game months the female player character can only wear the maternity clothes that are provided in the mod. The shirt...eh...it's not to my character's tastes and the two maternity robes are rather plain.

My character has closets full of fancy clothes and she changes what she's wearing everyday. Anytime I consider letting the pregnancy happen, she begs me not to...but not because of the usual complaints (the baby never grows up, or it's boring to have to keep taking care of the baby). It's "Please, please PLEASE don't make me wear the same two robes every single day for however long this process lasts! They are so plain! And there are ONLY two!"

She'll complain about this so much that she'll drive poor Voryn even more insane than he already is (and he's been pretty lucid lately ;) ) . So, by any chance has anyone ever looked at the Romance mod maternity robes and considered making a bigger variety of them? I'm sure that expectant mothers like to feel pretty too.

And now because I'm rather embarrassed that I have asked about this, I'm going to slink back into my deep dark corner and hide my face in shame.

You could try editing the textures yourself? It's been a long time since I've done anything with MW textures but I recall it being pretty simple.

I'd suggest creating the robes yourself using NifSkope. I just tried out some of Korana's CoV textures with a pregnant robe mesh from Children of Morrowind, and they work pretty well even without UV edits. You'll need to add an alpha property to the mesh for any dresses which have transparencies (and edit them to use something other than the Chest slot, e.g. Left Forearm or Left Ankle).

I'd love to try it but I don't have NifSkope. I assume that it's available for download somewhere?

Edited to add: I'm guessing that such a program could also work to retexture the riding pants from the Pegas Horse Ranch mod? I've often wished I could make those look more like the clothing my character is wearing.

Yep, you can use it to retexture anything you like - just find the 'NiSourceTexture' for each part of the mesh and double-click on the flower symbol to choose a new texture. It's pretty easy to get the hang of if you play around with it for a while.

Thank you, Helena. I have a feeling that once I get the hang of it I will have taken on a new addiction. :)

I wouldn't mind seeing a mod that can give a permanent 'trophy potbelly' and positive disposition (especially useful for trade) to all female NPCs of Morrowind. Come to think of it, Oblivion as well. You could call it 'The Final Quest to Screw Morrowind from Top to Bottom.' Think of it as the final swan song before you delete the game and move on.

I wouldn't add transparent textures if I were you... The two robes are technically "robe" items, which means that many body parts are simply disabled, meaning that underneath the robes you don't have arms, or a chest, upper legs, etc. You could set them up as "shirts" in the editor, but then if you add transparency it could look weird if there is transparency around the belly area. The mod doesn't really change the chest body part, it's just that when you remove the pregnancy robe or shirt you're wearing at the moment you'll have a "shirt" that will be force equiped and will have the appearance of a naked belly. So if you equip a dress with some transparency, you will just have the normal, flat belly underneath, and it might look weird. You could get around the issue if you copy/pasted the appropriate belly meshes into the nifs of the dresses, but that might be a bit complicated to do if you don't know what you're doing and you could end up with clipping issues as they weren't designed with that in mind.
Not sure any of this makes sense. In short you should be able to use textures with transparency if you flag the robes as shirts in the editor and if you use textures that don't show the belly area. I think.

But yeah, apart from that you can slap many textures from other mods onto the robe meshes. They are NioLiv's meshes which I modified with her permission, and use the same uv mapping. They use CI's textures from her replacer to keep the mod "lore-friendly." Only thing you have to keep in mind is that each robe has 9 different meshes representing the different stages of the pregnancy and you have to modify all of them. I'm not sure how easy it is to create new pregnancy robes in the editor as they are scripted items, it's probably simpler to just modify the ones you already have.

Yes, you'd have to flag them as shirts rather than robes in the CS, but that's no problem - the same method is used for any dress with transparency. The only way it would cause problems is if, as you say, there's transparency in the belly area - but very few dresses have this. I just tried one out in-game on my own character (who is not happy about being temporarily pregnant, but never mind), and it works fine.

I downloaded the program and tried it and you're right; it IS very simple. Even though I made this thread about the Romance mod's maternity robes, I'm really glad that I know how to change the appearance of the riding pants. Not that they look all that bad but it's pretty obvious that those pants don't go with what my character is actually wearing.
