My ideal version of a difficulty slider

Post » Sun Feb 20, 2011 8:35 pm

In oblivion you had a difficulty slider on a 100% scale. It only effected health of enemies and the damage they gave out. On the lowest setting it took them forever to kill you but you could kill them in one hit. The highest setting is the direct opposite. I want a more realistic difficulty system, where only a few hits could kill you or your enemy across the board. The only thing the slider would affect is how smart and skilled your enemies are. For instance on the easiest setting a bandit would be sloppy and slow, on normal they would ok but hindered somewhat and on hardest the ai would be at it's full potential for that specific enemy. So for example a bandit even on the hardest difficulty wouldn't be a great swordsman, it's AI would just be able to reach its potential in this case a rough, average, swordsman. Damage and health would be the same across the entire slider however. What do you guys think of this difficulty slider system? It's somewhat akin to the difficulty of the metal gear solid series excluding bosses. Regular enemies grew more intelligent , the higher the difficulty, although they did have artificial stat bonuses too.

On easy they would be able to attack but would svck at blocking and dodging. They would also be more likely to flee. Hard would be the opposite.

I hate to bring bad news, but there is already a topic like this one. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1153199-regarding-difficulty/

Admittedly this topic is slightly different. So it may avoid the searching eyes of the mods.

Back on topic now...
I like this idea, but only as some sort of option. I say that mostly because I'm pretty sure that Beth won't have such a difficult game. It alienates too many potential buyers. But again, as an option, I'm all for it.

Edit: I am getting slow in my old age.

Your version of the difficulty slider does sound promising (I for one did not like the Oblivion slider), and could make the game tougher from a tactical point of view, rather than a 1000 HP rat, for instance.

I think enemy health should be the same across the board, but a few hits killing me from a bandit no matter how low I put the difficulty? no.
If anything the damage should be the ONLY thing the difficulty slider changes, Health stays the same across the board but enemy damage gets higher with the difficulty slider.
so at lowest difficulty it takes a few hits to kill them but I can pretty much just stand their and laugh at them while they attack me, and at highest the same few hits from me will kill them but they can also drop me with a few hits.
the AI changing is also a good idea just change that one thing about your bar and I'd be happy.

i somewhat agree with u but i do beleive damage should go up a little. just not drastically. I think it would be amazing if the difficulty system was set by how good u were. If you go through a dungeon at a certain difficulty the game factors in how many potions used and enemies defeated. Then the difficulty automatically adjust for you tto where its not too easy and slightly difficult to keep u on ur toes but not overly difficult. Unless of course u use the slider urself. but an auto adjust difficult wuld be aweeessome. And i also beleive some creatures shuld nto be leveled...dont level rats...DO NOT LEVEL GOBLINS. lol. They become extremely strong if u level goblins. if you do don't let a single goblin get stronger then a level 10 fighter type character. they r soooo annoying.
