Ideas for "Commando" Build

Post » Wed Jun 26, 2013 3:33 pm

For my next Build I was thinking about making a character that is a Commando. In other words, one that can move fast to get behind enemy lines, then strike hard to eliminate as many enemies as possible in the shortest amount of time. Note, this wouldn't be an assassin build, but limited magic is allowed (maybe alteration and restoration). Race isn't a huge factor either.

What kind of Spells and Weapons (one-handed v two-handed, Duel-wield, Swords v maces v axes v hammers) should I use? I'm already thinking about having some minor alchemy skills to brew some aiding potions. Should I use Heavy or Light Armor, and what kind of it should I use?

NOTE: Speed and Strength are the key factors here, stealth is not really a factor, as I will be brewing Invisibility potions and using Sneak attacks with my Bow. Again, Race isn't really a factor, whichever one works best will be accepted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Light Armor for sure and Archery. A bow can take out enemies pretty fast.

Definitely One Handed. Either a sword or dagger.

For me, an important factor is "to shield or not to shield"...?
(a question worth pondering)

My players have always carried a shield - but lately they don't!
They launch Destruction (or Restoration etc.) using their shield hand, while wielding one-handed with the other.
It's great.

I wouldn't want to dual-wield weapons. Nor do I wish to two-hand spells...
One hand (each) gives the right balance.

So: does your Commando wield magic?
Or is he simply another sword-and-shield 'knucklehead' type?
Basically any player using a bow and/or two-handed isn't going to use a shield anyway...
But the question is: does a one-handed player even need a shield?

It's my definition of a Mage, heheh...
Light armor hood/hand/foot; robes; no shield.
But the Commando? I dunno.

Magic would most likely be limited to Magelight and possibly Oakflesh/Stoneflesh/Ebonyflesh for alteration and Heal spells at the most. For most things, I'll be brewing potions and whatnot. Perhaps I'll have an Axe in my right hand and a Dagger in my Left, but I'm still exploring possibilities.
