Ideas For Equipment Made From Wildlife

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 3:59 am

I was shooting at a mirelurk the other day and I noticed that it's shell was deflecting my lasers. I started thinking to myself "Forget power armor, I want an armor made of that!". Shortly afterwards and a couple stimpacks later I thought "oh dear god, why is that so powerful?". The wildlife of the commonwealth poses more of a threat to me than the people with military grade weaponry. Needless to say I want to use equipment built from their remains.

What I suggest is that a new series of magazines is made available to find that provide schematics to create the equipment. On the other hand they could be found as unique loot or something like that.

Bloatfly Equipment

Well I only have one idea of what to do with a recently dead bloatfly, make a maggot gun!

Larva Launcher

Damage: 10 and 4 bleeding damage per second over two seconds (stacking)

Fire Rate: 35

Range: 60

Accuracy: 60

Weight: 6

Bloatfly Mods:

Bloatfly: Standard

Black Bloatfly:

Damage: +4, +1 bleeding damage per second

Fire Rate: +4

Requires Science 2

Glowing Bloatfly:

Damage: +8, +1 bleeding damage per second, +4 radiation damage (the flat damage one, like with Lorenzo's artifact.)

Fire Rate: +6

Requires Science 3

Grip Mods:

Pretty much the ones from the laser gun. Nothing special here.

Digestion? Mods:

Standard Tank?: Standard 10:1 ratio of healing to ammo

Rapid Tank?: Worsened 15:1 ratio of healing to ammo, faster reloading

Multi Stage Tank?: Improved 5:1 ratio of healing to ammo, slow reloading

How the reloading of this thing works is that you put food into it and it is turned into ammo. The ammo is loaded into your weapon gradually, the normal rate is 1/second. The mods change it to be 2/second and 1/2 seconds.

Chem Mods:

Buffout: +6 damage

Psycho: +2 bleeding damage per second and enemies bleed for an additional second.

Jet: +25 fire rate, automatic firing.

To be clear the bleeding effect doesn't work on robots. The bleeding effect is also improved by the relevant perks like commando and rifleman.

Sights:

Pretty much the ones available on the laser gun.

As you may have guessed by the mods available for it this weapon uses food as ammo. The concept is that you are artificially keeping (most of) this thing alive so it keeps producing maggots. It operates off of the healing power of the food. For obvious reasons you can't take the food out once you put it in.

Mirelurk Equipment

Well armor was my first idea. That's hardly fun to think about, but I have a question. Would it be better suited as a normal armor piece or something bolted crudely to raider power armor?

Anyway my second idea was being able to rip the claw off one of the things and using it as a weapon. Unarmed could use a few more of them.

Mirelurk Claw

Damage: 16

Speed: Medium

Weight: 8

Mods

Razor Claw

+16 damage

Requires Blacksmith 2

Snapping Claw

+18 damage

Requires Science 2

This mod makes it so when you attack the claw snaps shut. That's just for visual purposes.

Razor Snapping Claw

+30 damage

Requires Science and Blacksmith 3.

Of course this was mostly to kind of find out what people would think about something like this. Of course if someone who actually knew what they were doing tried making something along these lines it would be so much better, my skill with balancing is limited at best. I would have wrote more but I lacked an idea of what other things to use.

So, your thoughts?

Larver Launcher sounds like it'd overlap in it's uses with the Syringer, would honestly rather see more Syringe types and a perk to make them more useful/do different things. It can't hurt variety though...

I like the idea for Mirelurk Armour. One idea I had in the past was to make it so each settlement was able to give a unique benefit for controlling it and keeping it happy. An example I always had was to make the Thicket Excavation a possible settlement, where the benefit was Mirelurk Armours and the ability to farm Mirelurks exclusively at this location. Anyway, back in topic, yeah Mirelurk Armour would be cool!

Mirelurk Claw would also be cool, but it'd need to do something to really distinguish itself from the Deathclaw Gauntlet, which is already a pretty boring piece of gear. Maybe Mirelurk Claw could have 100% armour penetration?

Well I don't see how it'll overlap with the syringer. The maggots with this weapon are projectiles meant just to do damage, not spawn bloatflies.

The syringer could definitely use more stuff though. Like a mod increasing it's horrendous fire rate. That and a mod allowing non damaging syringes to be unnoticed when striking.

I'm glad you like the idea of mirelurk armor.

The claw could have a high damage against limbs maybe? The snapping versions could probably have some unique kill animations, like placing the claw on their limb and then cutting it off.

Actually in this version of fallout.. a world where apparently no pre-war weapons really survived and resources are supposedly rare. You'd think finding things like combat armor or metal armor would actually be just as hard.

It would be interesting to see mirelurk shell, deathclaw bone, armor types. Of course this delves into the world of TES a bit. Fallout has already been called TES with guns so I'm sure they want to keep as many separations between the two franchises as possible.

Squirrel on a stick. ( not cooked, or coked...fire damage I guess?)

Chance on hit to cause rabies

Chance on hit to break causing the squirrel to rampage out

12 damage but very fast attack

Variants include the squirrel flail of ages ( 3-5 squirrel heads/attachments ) and the throwing squirrel ( slightly sharper stick to throw at a person, it then impales them and allows the squirrel to stick to the enemy and continuously damage them. )

Haha I want this now...it started off as a joke but I want flail of ages squirrel weapon..

I personally believe these humans in the wasteland are doomed. They couldn't fabricate a spear or bow. That's not a good sign. :(

How about actually being able to craft Deathclaw Gauntlets? I have 20 useless Deathclaw hands rotting in my steamer trnk, ready to kill again. :(

Also something you missed, stinger launcher! Uses Stingwing and Radscorpion stingers as ammo!

...Wwait, is the deathclaw gauntlet not craftable? I never liked the idea of it but literally thought it was at least craftable...even I have deathclaw hands just sitting around lol

I am a little surprised that you can't do that. To miss something like that makes me think they intentionally avoided doing that for some reason. I'd like to be able to do so so I don't have to hunt down one of them.

I think the stinger launcher would be impractical. I don't have a large enough supply of them to make it a weapon for regular use.

A fair enough point, do merchants frequently sell stingers? I haven't actually been looking for those there. Granted cannon balls aren't found in every shop.

Well I'm sure if they do add it (highly unlikely) they will show up in shops. I think that I've found them for sale at the meat shop in Diamond City before, however.

Well the Syringer has a syringe that does damage over time 'Bleeding Syringe'. Maybe if the maggots exploded and hit everyone in a small radius? I dunno, it just feels too similar... Maybe create a generic Grenade Launcher which can launch these types of bits and bobs to make explosive ailment-type weapons instead?

If Bethesda do add weapons I'd want them to be as unique as possible, really create an arsenal which gives you different ways to approach a task.

I think the syringes are unnoticed when striking? At least I've noticed enemies only go to 'Caution' when hit by a syringe...

Yeah, high limb damage works for me, as long as it's got something to set it apart from a Deathclaw Gaunt and a PowerFist.

Was thinking maybe Bethesda could add ornamens for your PAs using animal bits and bobs, kinda like a decorative option (not in the same slot as the paintjobs) with unique affects.

For example -

Yao Guai Ornament - Requires Yao Guai Meat, Military Grade Circuit Board, Military Grade Duct Tape. Gives you the ability to 'Yao Guai Roar', scaring lower levelled enemies away or causing them to cower on the spot for an easy kill.

Deathclaw Ornament - Requires Deathclaw Meat, Military Grade Circuit Board, Military Grade Duct Tape. Gives you the ability to 'Deathclaw Roar', your PA will stomp the ground disorienting anyone nearby and causing some to fall over.

Maggots only eat dead flesh IRL so unless your fighting ferels they probably wouldn't be very useful. But why not extract the bloatfly's acid gland and use it as a grenade or an injectable with the syringer. Having ranks in chemist could allow you to increase its potency.

In fallout they shoot them at you, so it would be usable against more than ferals.

I had thoughts about making things from wasteland wildlife actually, think it'd be a cool mod or dlc. On the mirelurk armor, I would think make into something for power armor and make it something you could I guess use under water. I had also thought of death claw armor, made obviously from deathclaw hide, and I don't mean as power armor; I had thought it'd be something made from death claw hide that could have an effect of having people possibly run away from you on occasion out of fear of death claws, and it could be upgraded useing death claw hides as well to make you look more and more threatening. Death claw armor could go through the supposed ranks of death claw, from the regular death claw to possibly albino or chameleon death claw. Another thing that could be is either brahmin helmet, or radstag helmet, allowing you to cause damage from sprinting into enemies; and another could be a blood bug gauntlet that'll maybe give the player a blood pack on occasion from punching enemies.

Here are a couple ideas:

?Deathmask: Helmet made from deathclaw skull. Gives intimidation bonus.

?Ghoul-B-Gone: Tailored pheremone spray, renders wearer invisible to low-level ghouls. Made from insect bits.

Yeah. Seems a little too chitin armory to me. While some more variety would be nice, I can't see any of this doing something that isn't already done in game by something else, and it all just kinda seems like it would be redundant and mainly cosmetic.

A blood bug gauntlet? Maybe have a unique power attack that has a chance of creating a blood pack on kill? Or maybe it's a little much, how about a spring loaded syringer syringe that creates something you can craft blood packs with?

I'd wear the deathclaw's skull even if all it was was a terrible helmet.

Maybe we could just bring back the ghoul mask?

Deathclaw skin boots, hats, clothing.

Don't care about armor protection or anything, just as long it looks badass.

Make brahmin saddle bags out of Deathclaw hide. Deathclaw hide duster with a deathclaw skull helmet.

Imagine the look of horror in your enemy's eyes...and in your allies for that matter.

One of the scrapped ideas I had was a bunch of ghoul parts mounted on raider power armor coated in radioactive material. Fully repairing meat shield.
