Ideas for first Ultimate Edition Playthrough

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 12:50 am

After clocking in so many hours of Skyrim that it can't even run properly on my PS3 I am thinking about Fallout: New Vegas' Ultimate Edition.

I would like some ideas on my first playthrough and what I will be doing.

My character's name will be Reamus 'Phoenix' Falvo, he will be nicknamed Phoenix for being shot in the head and surviving just fine. I will have melee, speech, and survival as tag skills, even though I will also use pistols very often. I will also set the amount I can carry to two hundred (unless I have enough to overencumber me, in which case I will have to remain overencumbered until I can drop my carry weight back down to two hundred). I will mostly use spears and machetes, having started with the Tribal Pack, I will have my character consider siding with the Legion for a while but will ultimately side with House. He will also be armed with dynamite he gets from dead Powder Gangers, a 9mm pistol, and a varmit rifle.

I will be role playing a tribal from southeastern Utah who went west to the NCR for work and adventure at the age of seventeen. He got a job as a courier and his third job was to deliver the device to the Divide (sorry, this is the spoiler section). His fifth was the Platinum Chip.

After he's shot in the head and left in a shallow grave he is furious, it is the ultimate insult to not give a fallen enemy a proper burial when you have the means (meaning having a shovel). He hunts down Benny to complete his contract and to punish him for his crimes.

Along the way he goes to the Sierra Madre and get all of the gold bars along with all of the weapons you get (I saw a video on how to do it and will attempt it). After that he finishes his trip to New Vegas and kill Benny in his casino, fufilling his need for vengeance. He sells the gold bars and buys himself the Medicine Stick, Gehenna, and the Battle Rifle, at which point he will sell the varmit rifle.

After that he goes with the Happy Trails Caravans to Utah, thinking he can persuade them to bring him all of the way to his home but things go bad in Zion Canyon where he has to fight for survival. Once while in Zion he finds out that his tribe was wiped out by the White Legs. Furious he swears vengeance against the Legion and decides to side with House.

He helps the Follower's of the Apocalypse any way he can. He sees them as peaceful saviors of the wasteland, they do their job better than he can. He feels pity and compation for everybody he comes across in the Mojave until he goes to Big MT.

When his brain is removed so are his morals and conscious, he no longer feels emotional towards the poor or the exploited in the Mojave.

At the end of OWB he kills the Think Tank and does not take his brain back. He goes back to the Mojave as a darker, crueler version of himself.

He butchers the Fiends on his return and helps the NCR out where ever he feels they belong. He recuits Boone as a companion and stops the Omertas plan at attacking the Strip during the Second Battle for Hoover Dam and breaks the Great Khans away from being allied with the Legion. He kills the deathclaws of Quarry Junction and slaughters Cottonwood Cove, including the slaves, losing himself in battle. He mercifully kills those who have been crucified.

When he did the quest Bye, Bye, Love he saw the humanity Carlitos and Joana had that he lacked. Their happiness that he lost in Big MT. He returned to Big MT and replaced his brain. Although he did not have as many emotions or compation as before he still had some.

As the Second Battle gets closer he gets a message from Ulysses and goes to the Divide.

When he finally comes face to face with Ulysses he convinces him to not fight, that they are one and the same. The Courier and Ulysses hail from tribes that Caesar's Legion has wiped out, with them being the only survivors. They both have some dfark backgrounds and both care for what happens to humanity in the near and distant future. The Courier then nukes Caesar's Legion, although he dislikes the NCR he does not feel that they deserve to be nuked.

When he gets back he fights the Second Battle for Hoover Dam, convincing Legate Lanius to retreat and also convinces General Oliver to stand down. He allows House to rule and becomes his servant, doing all of the physical things while House does all of the thinking and planning.

If you have any other suggestions on what I should do please tell me below.

sounds like a good plan. hope the plan will be doable for you. as the saying goes, the best laid plans of ghouls and molerats sometimes goes astray.

Thanks.
I usually do manage to stick to a role when role playing, I hope I can manage this though.

And I edited the post, adding that Caesar's Legion wiped out his tribe, changed the location of the tribe, and changed the outcome of Lonesome Road.

Sounds good to me, but if one of his tag skills is speech, then does that mean that his tribe spoke English or that he learned it somewhere in the NCR. If it's the latter, that could be an interesting add-on to his back story if you wanted to write it.

I'll give it some thought, thanks.

I think it's great, Sebor. Although I think he should recognize the fact that House DID save him when he was shot (using Victor), and aid Mr. House earlier in the plot.

I don't know if the Sierra Madre treasure should happen that early in the story, either. You might want to insert it in between the part where he gets his brain back, and Lonesome Road. (Unless you're trying to play them in Chronological Order)

I always play Honest Hearts->OWB->Dead Money->LR

Yeah I was trying to go in the order that they came out.

I'll think about that thing about House.

And thanks!

Thats awesome, once I get Ultimate Edition I was going to restart my main character (also a House supporter) and transfer over my Lone Wanderer girl from Fallout 3. Not sure who I'd side with playing as her but probably the NCR as she's supposed to be a "Wasteland Jesus" type.

I like it. I just got Fallout New Vegas and all the DLC for the PC, I have played on Xbox 360 only a 100 times, so I wanted to do it on PC (Console Commands) lol. I will probably create either my regular character or someone different.

House is awesome, I see nobody better for the Mojave.

Thanks, I wish I could play on PC but my computer's crap and I don't have enough money to buy a good one.

I always like using speech, I like talking my way out of situations over fighting.

And Terrifying Presence is a good idea. I will get Rawr for the Second Battle at Hoover Dam.

Sounds like a pretty good story! I myself am playing the ultimate edition. Currently doing a Frank Castle character. Wearing the black combat armor that looks similiar as the van graffs, but its just listed as combat armor, so no quest item. I didn't even know about that campfire site by gun runners, where there was dead crimson caravan and van graff thugs. Also wearing an enclave officer hat only because its black and matches the colour of the armor well. 1st Recon Beret just doesn't look as nice on the guy. Doing a mostly grunt character too, so assault carbine and all american, chances knife. I'll eventually side with Mr. House or Yes Man, but will always help out the NCR on the way. Never enjoy playing with the legion, and there is a huge gap in quests, between those two factions. Just more to do with the NCR.

I love this game.

Alright, I've beaten Honest Hearts and Old World Blues.

I'm level 27 and I decided that instead of switching over to House (like I have in every playthrough except one NCR playthrough) I'm going to stick with the Legion the entire time.

In Honest Hearts I decided that my character's tribe had been wiped out by the White Legs against the Legion's orders and, wanting vengeance, my character sided with Joshua Graham even though he would be punished with death if that was ever discovered. He wiped out the White Legs and forever wore Joshua Graham's armor and used A Light Shining in the Darkness to honor him.

In Old World Blues I my heart, spine, and brain back, sold all of the things given to me during the DLC (along with other stuff during other quests) and I bought a (GRA) Anti-Material Rifle with explosive and incenary rounds (I already had a (GRA) 12.7mm SMG, (GRA) Assault Carbine, (GRA) Battle Rifle, Hunting Shotgun, and (GRA) Katana).

I cleared out Quarry Junction, I got the Boomers to side with the Legion and I plan to get into Dead Money soon.

I am now level 33, I got the White Glove Society to side with the Legion and I have just completed Dead Money (I only managed to get 11 bars, but I've only sold five and bought a ton of ammo leaving me with 17,000).

I am going to destroy the Brotherhood of Steel then start Lonesome Road.

I will update regularly when I have completed some more tasks (probably after Lonesome Road).

I beat NV as the Legion at level 44.

I have assassinated President Kimball (.50 Explosive Round from an Anti-Material Rifle to the back of his head), completed Lonesome Road (nuked the NCR and sided with Ulysses to fight the Marked Men), and took over Hoover Dam (killed General Oliver and assisted the Legion in every way possible).

I've started an Independant playthrough, after which is NCR then House.

I am having a lot of fun with this game.

WALL OF TEXT

Oh my god! Where do you get your inspiration to write all this!? I guess it's only true Roleplayers who has the ability to create stuff like this... But I think I'm a true Roleplayer! I play Skyrim, Fable, and all the Fallout games. Great job!!!

About the walkthrough with your character:

First of all, I would like to say that this whole thing is very well thought out.

And with the part when he loses his brain: That s**t is pretty horrible... Losing a brain, to later realize that you don't have emotions or compassion for anybody. And then you start killing people, a lot of people!

And the name you picked is really cool! Reamus ''Phoenix'' Falvo...
Much better than the name I picked in Skyrim when I decided to make a Business-character; Davo Utona. It sounds like some odd name from space...

I'm a huge noob to New Vegas, so can you answer a question? How much is one gold-bar worth? You said that you selled the goldbars you found so that you could buy a Medicine Stick, a Gehenna and a Battle Rifle. You didn't tell us how many it was!

That's all I could say about this well thought out wall of text you made. Nothing I want to be changed. I can't tell because I haven't got the [censored] game yet! :swear:

I think the gold bars are worth about just under 10,000 caps each, with a good barter skill. Huge pain in the ass to get the gold bars though. Dead Money is a frustrating DLC. Completed it once, and I have no real desire to try it again.

Thank-you, I didn't really get inspiration. I just got bored.

I usually half role play. I don't think much out, I come up with a general background for my character and play that way.

That's a pretty cool name. My character in Skyrim's name was Aenin, he was a disendant of my character from Oblivion, Arrsinus.

Gold Bars are worth 10,539 caps (yes I had to check with the Vault). I managed to escape with 11 of them. I didn't buy the Medicine Stick (I prefly considered it before realizing I didn't have the space to carry another gun) and I didn't even consider getting Gehenna. The Battle Rifle costs about 1,500, Gehenna costs 12,000, and the Medicine Stick costs 20,000.

Its very fun, I finished this playthrough (It ended up as a Legion playthrough) and I started an Indie playthrough. I have just reached Novac with about 2,000 caps and I am going to recruit Boone.

WOW , I love reading this which brings me to my question:

Is there a "let's play" video of you playing your build on youtube?

I'd like to see this a melee build with the use of crappy weapons on side ;)

I wish I could do a let's play but I play on PS3 and my computer is so crappy it can barely run two tabs open on Internet Explorer.

If I were to get a nice computer I would almost definantly do a playthrough of NV (I like watching LPs and would really like to do one if I could).

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
