Ideas for a new game Making RPGs interesting!

Post » Wed May 11, 2016 2:10 pm

I am posting 2 things: one is a list of things that would be good to see, and the other is some comments on Personal growth areas that can make an RPG shine!

Things that would be good to see in an upcoming RPG:

1) VR compatibility

2) Increased intra-factional character interactions, politics, twists and development. Let there be different factions within factions, such as each school of magic having a Master mage on the council of Mages, and you being "attached" to a school. The archmage is picked based not upon question completion only, but also on politics, and his skill levels, etc.... There may be infighting, demotion, and promotions, and cross allegiances and switchings to different school affiliations, etc.... Make factions more in depth and more interesting! Give us rankings that are used more as well with privilages etc....

3) Possible non-massive online games, where the characters are persistent when you log off. Perhaps have 10 others on a server, and the server / world you pick is based upon your playing times. Persistent characters means that you assign charactistics (either through how you play, or some choices you make specifically), that an AI plays your character while offline. Give them a job or something like that... eg. Hunter other players meet randomly, or a blacksmith, or a temple healer, or a shop owner, or a Guard.... etc..... The potential is great!

4) More ways to interact with people / the environment: eg, things like climbing skills, or survival skills, or different communications skills. These things are done well in a lot of other RPGs, and done soso in Skyrim.

5) Have stats like strength or endurance affect you actual physical in-game size, or intellect affect communication. In Skyrim, let things like your heavy armor / blacksmithing skills affect how solid you appear, or your spell skils also open up other dialogue options. Increase the character interaction to the world based upon the characters attributes / skills.

6) IF you look at voice overs.... I would go with the way wizardry 8 went. Give the voices a personality attached to the voice. Voice and personality go hand in hand. Wizardry 8 knew this, and Dragon Age inquisition didn't know this!!!

......

Regarding Character Growth that makes RPGs Shine... I will make another post....

Hmm. Not really interested at all, thanks. Especially as regards online games, VR, voice overs.... (and that goes a BILLION times for voice over for my characters).... As far as stats/abilities - been there done that, nothing new, don't need it.

I'm not interested in Virtual Reality (VR) video games at all. I just don't like having goggles or helmets attached on or to my head.

I'm not interested in online only video games at all either, unless it's MMO video games like World of Warcraft and EVE Online. That's about it.

These are thoughts.

Some thoughts can inspire other thoughts and ideas in other people.

Use the ideas, not to trash them, but to take what is good and build on them!

With voice overs, it doesn't have to be complete voices overs. I note in some games, there are expletives or outbursts from the characters (which is what Wizardry 8 does really well with about 32 or more different personalities and voices). Complete voice overs? The ones I have experienced, I have not loved. DAI ends up with a voice with no personality, and that is boring and svcks! (in my opinion). The Witcher 3? - not too bad, but it is not the character that you have created, and that is something "I" don't like about the Witcher series.

VOs? maybe reach a middle point, where you choose from 50 different voices and personalities per six for outbursts, pain sounds, excited outbursts, Charging noises, etc... (A bit like baulders Gate, and neverwinter nights perhaps??)

Throw in some girl ecstasy sounds (mmmmmmmmm whats the point of vr if I can not sleep with the elvish queen......2-caps has a sad life) And SOLD.

seriously keep at it, not bad not bad, keep em coming.

At some point I am sure we will indeed reach apoint where pen and paper will be done in VR (man I hope I live long enough) and You can and will adventure with people from all over... (still more of a form a party and give the game master head aches more than just well WOW type myself though)

(edit- Thank you for the sound files and demo art but I said Elvish queen,,,,Not chaos goblin, feral ghoul princess, or Jenny greenteeth -Meg mucklebones from legend for you young ones to look up heheh that is also a joke the OP did not send out stuff just in case there are ghoul girl fans yikes heh)

Heh I have been know to play girl characters simply so I can enjoy the form.

But more often than not I would revert to a male protagonist, because it felt more like me.

I like the idea of inter factional politics. That's actually cool.

But no to the VR. I really don't want to wear goggles. I don't even watch 3D at the movie theater. And I'm often without Internet so I would hate the online play. It's ok for MMOs but I want my single player games to stay offline.
