Identifying with your chosen race.

Post » Fri Oct 14, 2011 2:28 am

I choose my race in all RPG's by how I feel it identifies with myself and how I feel I would want to play given their structured lore and personal tendencies. Which reminds me, the race I will be as on my first character will be a Khajiit. I'm not a fan of playing humanic-like races in video games. I like the departures from the normal the most, especially bestial races. I just like the concept, and I think I like them because their personalities in other fiction are usually the stoic, taciturn doogooder who can kick some serious ass if provoked enough. And my second character will be Argonian. Because Dragons are lizards, and the main character (you) is "dragonborn."

I just like being the kind of character who has that aura or feel that underneath what you see is exactly what's there, but you have to push through all the unexpected aspects of who they are to finally see it unleashed.

What makes you pick your race?

I, personally enjoy playing a race that would be "the least likely to succeed." The Second play through I'd most likely go all magic and stealth on people. The third, I'm going Norse BLOOD AND THUNDER!!

I indentify myself with the human races most, and that is the reason I mostly play them. When I do not I use the races I believe lore-wise suits my RP best. I do not care for in-game skill benefits as they can, and will, be worked out as you play the character.

In each playthrough for me, it's the one that suits my playstyle most for that playthrough. I'll play a Breton first, in my mage/melee hybrid. Then a Nord for my paladin-style warrior. Then, for my ranger, I don't know yet. A kitty maybe?

I am totally going for Khajit since I enjoy feline races, not to mention you can finally model them after the more warrior-orientated races, giving that ferocious look. Also, I really enjoy the fur, for some reason, it suits for both my RP style and environmental logic. Nothing beats a furred animal out in the animals when it comes to survival.

I make one for each race, then try to relate to each one. Of course, sometimes I don't succeed. I surprised myself when my orc character in Morrowind became one of my favorites.

My first playthrough, I choose:

The one I identify with the most personally.

The one that suits my playstyle the most.

The one I think looks the coolest.

That's a female Dunmer Mage in Oblivion, and a breton in Morrowind.

For my second playthrough I choose:

The regional native.

In oblivion that was a female Imperial Knight, and a dunmer thief in Morrowind.

For my third playthrough I choose the playstyle I haven't yet played (for the sake of variation): that's in Oblivion a Bosmer Thief, and in Morrowind a Khajiit Monk (which ironically ended up my most powerful character to date).

After these three universal steps, I try out every aspect of the game I haven't yet explored; quests, guilds, races, birthsigns, etc...

Im really stck for what race I will choose first. I played oblivion as a noble red guard warrior but I may try a Mage in skyrim,Breton most likely wielding a sword and a spell, fire or frost most likely. Then again I havnt done a full play through of any ES as a beast race and havnt seen what they are like :( I. Would like to try something different but I don't know if I will enjoy the play styles

I've never "identified" with any character I've ever made, so....

I tend to go with what looks coolest / what I feel like at the time. Which is kind of a problem with Skyrim - I thought that pretty much all the presets they showed ranged from raggedy to unattractive to ugly. (But I hold out hope for nice looking characters - some of the demo character screen shots, and the barmaid, all looked pretty good. And by the time I'm done with the first playthrough, there should be replacement skin textures, new races, new faces, new hairstyles.....)

1st, is the race I identify the most with, since I'm 5'5, I am going to make a Bosmers, Since my first playthrough I always play as myself, and this is how I normaly introduce myself to the world.

2nd. RP wise, in tis playthrough depending on what I saw during my first playthrough and thought "hey this will be really awesome to do" Mining/Hunting/Smithing, ect ect, I will make a character for that.

Then there is my "Main" playthrough, where I keep a journal on my character, no script, just plain Roleplaying, this will be my Imperial.

And of course I'm going to make a ton of playthrough..so many things to do!!!! xD

All the presents, just look plain hot! The guys finally look like actual men! :P

WHITE WHALE HOLY GRAIL
i usualy go for the race that i identify with
then the style that suits me
then a race i dont play often

im like a argonian easy to misunderstand and i express myself a whimsical manner (like bretons) i prefer the style of an assassin with the powers of a great mage ,the spellsword type, or the archer mage, my races are usually argonians , bretons, dunmer ,but im branching out to the khajiit and orcs ( ill start with khajiit for my first character ....i love that this series allows me to express myself in even more whimsical ways

Whatever seems like the most fun to roleplay. That does have it's limits however. I can't see myself ever enjoying a playthrough as a Khajiit or a Argonian. I'm far too vain and need to be able to admire my character's looks. :whistling:

I go with whatever fits the character idea I have. I'll play them all eventually.

I'm a very impatient typical aries and I need to go redguard next time. I like being a pure strong man, someone who knows their ability and is confident and unstoppable because of 'that special' spirit. The kind of person who wins even when they die, because they die the way they wanted - fighting. I always believed in adrenaline as an unstoppable force in human bodies too.

1st - playstyle
2nd - playstyle
3rd - Not so much self Identity, as character identity.

I don't have to identify with my character AT ALL

I plan on playing as a gay argonian , I'm a straight human... wheres the connection? IDK I just think its more flavorful of a character to play something weird
