Idle Dialogues for NPCs - Check This Out!

Post » Tue Jan 11, 2011 5:08 pm

Note: I have nothing to do with the creation of this mod, I've just come across it recently on TESA and Nexus and thought it deserved its own thread.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38466

Apparently Bethesda had originally intended for NPCs to talk to themselves when idle and went ahead and recorded dialogue for them before removing the feature prior to release. I'm guessing it seemed weird to have so many otherwise sane NPCs constantly talking to themselves, or something.

I'm actually surprised it took five years to uncover this content and make a mod to patch it back in--I'd never heard of any of this until now. I just wanted to bring it to the attention of anyone here on the forum who hasn't come across it yet.

Actually, the craziness factor of NPCs constantly talking to themselves might be reduced somewhat if regular player-nearby greetings were removed, so the idle dialogues are more like invitations to conversation, I guess.

Hahaha I knew I should have searched. I assumed since I hadn't seen it in the last few weeks no one had posted about it, it must have slipped by me.

Sorry!

DELETE

Going to bump that thread though, I am really surprised I haven't seen it before considering I spend so much time here.

Thanks for reminder though - hmm what can I add to this ... http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14669 is a favorite.

Talk with your hands is pretty nice, except for when the stuff they're wearing clips like crazy, hehe.

Also I've been totally meaning to post this thread for a few days but I waited to see if someone else would, all the while assuming there was never a release thread made for it. That thing totally slipped off the front page and disappeared afterwards, it must have been some 24 hour stretch where I wasn't able to check the forums.

Let this be a lesson: you're never too cool and in-the-know for the search box.

Well wouldn't that happen even if they did not talk to you?

What are you dressing them in - Morrowind armor that would make a football player envious of the shoulder pads?

Whatever comes with NPC New Clothes and Cyrodiil NPC Remodeling Project. Most of the NPCs in my game aren't wearing vanilla outfits.

Actually, it wasn't the clipping that really stood out, it just came to mind first, it's talking to NPCs holding a weapon, I think, where at the beginning of their dialogue they do a little awkward movement, do you know what I'm talking about?

Shields do stand out, but if you watch the NPCs stand around and talk to each other it happens then too.

I like that mod with the dialogue field of view backed up so you can see them from the hips up.

You mean they are getting a conversation idle played while wielding a weapon?

I can see where that would cause a few problems.

Thinking of another mod and I searched for it only to find an updated version - very recently uploaded:

... seems to claim to fix the issues with the mod too. I may have to check this out.

Thanks for the link to that, I just came across Personality Idles randomly taking a look at the Talk With Your Hands link and was probably going to get the original mod, but what you linked is exactly what I want. So does this make Talk With Your Hands obsolete?

I'm certain of it - the readme cites talk with your hands as a source.
