So Iearned the hard way...

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 8:06 pm

So I just recently found out that you can only have 1 character in Skyrim. That being said I lost my lvl 51 character and gain a level 1 pushover. This pretty much angers and saddens me. I don't know if there is a way to get my main back or something but this really does svck. In all of the other Bethesda games that I've played I could have up to 3 saved characters and now I find out that Skyrim does 1. I don't know if this is the same for all consoles or just the PS3.

you can have multiple characters on ps3, you just have to save them to separate files

I always archive my saves with Winrar giving the archive the name of the character, I can then swap them out as the mood takes me.

no not a new ps3 user. when you push start and go to save you have the option to "create a new save" that will make multiple save files. Your "auto-save" file will always be overwritten but as long as you save manually to each save file for each character you will be fine. but i do recommend using different names for characters cuz its easy to save over the wrong file like i did once lol

Yeah you can have as many characters as you want lol. I have four right now. One with 100 hours or so. Another with about 40 hours. The other two look real nice and all but have not even gotten to Riverwood yet.

Not sure how it works on the consoles but well they said they would make us have separate character saves similar to Dragon Age's save system. So you do not save over them. There should be a button prompt for your other saves.

If you are on PC like me they are all in the Load menu just kind of jumbled together.

Facepalm in 1..2...

Drya I did create a new save but from what your saying about auto save. that may have been the cause of the loss of my character. I'm going to try remaking another character without auto-save enable tomorrow to see if I'll get the results that I want.

You can make a hundred characters if you want. Just have to be really, really careful not to overwrite save files.\

Khronos- The autosave function shouldn't matter, that will not overwrite a manual save, since autosave has three seperate slots. Press start, go all the way to the right. Press save and create a new save file, this one will be permanent unless you overwrite or delete it.
If you could have multiple character in Oblivion, you should have no problem in Skyrim, the setup is the exact same.

dont ever click "start new game" i found a solution for you ps3 players in the last thread, simply keep that first save that the "start new game" makes on its own (it isa hard save and wont be overwritten unless you start a new game the conventinal way) and start your new characters from it (it will haveways be of a character named "prisoner")

Keep auto-save enabled but save progressively throughout the game. As recommended, follow the rule of 3 for every character you make.

there should be a separate auto-save file in addition to your main save file, unless you have not yet manually saved your game. if thats the case then yeah starting a new game will overwrite the auto-save file from the previous game. always do a manual save every now and then, at least thats my recommendation and you pretty much have to if you want multiple characters.

@Voice of Reason: care to explain what you mean? kinda confused right now. at least you know what I'm talking about.

Kronos theres some kind of issue with PS3s saving at the beginning of the game. You ought to probably do some checking into it. You aren't the first person this has happened to. There's a post or two buried somewhere in these forums. I think one is titled [censored] You Bethesda. Seriously, it's got useful info in it if you get far enough into it.

Then I don't know, unless you accidentely saved over your main, then it's not really likely it just disappeared.
