IGN 2011 Video Game Release Timeline.

Post » Sat Jul 03, 2010 8:35 pm

When IGN first put out this list there was an out cry from comment section because Brink wasn't even on the list.

I know there hasn't been a official release date from the developer, but I found this interesting.

They are saying April 12th for Brink in "actual release dates" section but they also have Mortal Kombat on the same side without a date.

They also have a "seasonal releases" section (no dates) with games like Mass Effect 3 that have a "Coming Holiday 2011" release time frame. Which is smaller window than Spring 2011.

I wonder how they came up with this, or if they even check on these things.

Check it out. http://pc.ign.com/articles/114/1140196p1.html

SO Bethesda starts the year off with Brink and Ends with ES V - can't really beat that.

It is interesting to see that they have release months and release seasons along side specific dates and that Brink falls in to the last category. It's easy to dismiss a specific date as an educated guess when every game is given a specific date, this does make me wonder.

Bethesda could have a date that they aren't ready to make official yet but are confident enough to give to media and distributors providing it remains unofficial. If April 12 starts showing up all over the place that could lead credence to this date . . . or it could an educated guess on IGN's part and everyone is jumping on board because they assume IGN knows something they don't. The former situation is probably the more likely one but I have seen the second before so the possibility shouldn't be ignored. Now if major sites and stores continue to have disparate dates I'd consider that good evidence that this is just an educated guess.

I never trust a date that isn't made officially - which means it needs to come from the source and it needs to be released in an official manner with actual press releases and trailers preferred. However I'm still glad that you shared this :)

"Educated" and "IGN" shouldn't be in the same sentence, :)

GameStop laso has April 12th...that could be why they probably used that date. Who knows...

I agree with the post above me. They probably think the same as every poster here on the forums: *put any company here* has the release date set on day x, is this true?

Probably they took one of the placeholder dates and considered it real or just made guess based on these dates.

You can't spell "ignorant" without IGN.

I'm choosing to go with the 'What IGN says is lies' until there is something on either the SD/Brink or Beth sites.

I think the fact that it comes out after Crysis 2 will hurt this game a bit. Hopefully not by much though.

Well judging that Crysis Wars svcks, Crysis Warhead took me 5 hours to beat. So if Crysis 2 is anywhere near that short it should last a week.

I think the real competition to Brink, in terms of sleeper hits, is Homefront, because, well, it looks amazing.

Yeah I actually don't think Crysis 2 is gonna be as good as everyone expects. I'm gonna get it only because of the beautiful graphics and New York City setting since I'm from the area. And wow, I completely forgot about Homefront...yeah that's a major hit as well.

Homefront can be a major hit. Just like BRINK. Just like Crysis 2. Just like Super Super Meatboy.

Homefront looks fun, I'm not a big fan of vehicle play though, hard to balance, rarely done well. Really cool idea though of opening up the battlefield as you progress through the map.

People who were planning on buying brink will buy it regardless of what comes out beforehand.

I'm actually the opposite, I was going to buy Homefront but Brink is so soon after I'm not bothering. It def will not be like when ETQW was released same time as COD4 :S

That's not entirely true. Someone might be tempted to buy one of the games that comes out before and then not be willing to spend more money on BRINK.

After all it wasn't in the GT4 top 10 anticipated games of 2011, I don't visit there anymore :S

Beside Brink I am eagerly awaiting Homefront and the new Deus Ex.

I am also hoping the new battlefield doesn't have class specific weapons. I am really starting to not like that in a game.

They already started DLC for Homefront (Xbox 360 exclusive of course) lol. I'm really excited for RAGE and Dragon Age 2

I dunno about rage, i see nothing alluring about the game, sure its the whole new tech 5 engine, super pretty and all and super hyped.... but as a FPS I've seen nothing enticing... maybe I'm not looking hard enough?
