Ign and Dark Soul?

I really don't see what's supposed to be good about Dark Souls besides difficulty. The games looks reeeeeeeaaaaally boring.

TES isn't a series in need of multiplayer, its built for the single-player experience not d-bags who want to teabag dead enemies together. TES is also a far more forgiving and newbie accessible experience. Demon Souls and the upcoming Dark Souls will not be, those games are difficult to an extreme, and in many cases a fault.

Dark Souls may be a good game for some people, but I'd say Skyrim would still have it beaten hands down.

Why the hell would any self-respecting gaming website make an article like that? Honestly, how the hell does IGN still exist? Who goes there? How are they able to afford keeping their site up?

I mean, hell, I loved the crap out of Demon's Souls. I'm excited for Dark Souls. But why the hell do we have to bash Skyrim to put Dark Souls over? Why is that even remotely necessary? It's just douchebaggery.

Amen to that.

Pathetic that they even published that. Wow. They're basing Skyrim's world off of Oblivion's without even seeing it all and saying Dark Souls has better Dragons when they haven't even fought a Dragon in Skyrim. And no multiplayer is a knock against TES?

IGN has very few articles that can be considered "gold". Their opinions are very biased towards FPS's, and even in that genre they are loving on that CoD c**k way too much when most every other game review site is saying that CoD is crap...

They're coverages of RPG's are suspect at best, and they typically relegate every other genre of game to kindergarten levels of gaming.

I'm not even going to get into how the VGA's that they sponsor are rigged so that no one developer gets pissed that they didn't win anything (Neil Patrick Harris won an award with that shi**y Spider-man game? Really?).

I go to IGN for the very few quality pieces that they offer, the rest of what IGN does really can't even be called Journalism...

Just my opinion though.

1) ONLINE MULTIPLAYER:

Irrelevant.

2) DLC AND PRICING:

No DLC is preferable to significant DLCs that is priced properly?

3) EPIC SCOPE:

Alright, I give up, not reading anymore of this nonsense.

It's a niche game. I had a character on demons souls that I put 150+ hours into. For $15, its worth trying if you like action rpgs, and trying to come up with survival strategies. The online play is pretty unique also.

"WINNER: DARK SOULS - Skyrim has dragons, but Dark Souls has crazy ass, insane dragons that come with the inherent challenge of the Dark Souls experience."

Thats just stupid. Also, the whole average DLC thing for 15 dollars is complete [censored]. Every Fallout DLC has been 10 dollars so far, and Shivering Isles cost as much as it did because it was an EXPANSION PACK.

Wow that article is pretty damn stupid...

Multiplayer- there are many things a potential multiplayer element might ruin, limiting design decisions, but whatever, I let it slide...
DLC- So DS wins because it doesn't have DLCs at all... wait what? Bethesda never actually stripped the game for later DLCs, they always worked like smaller expansion packs. It's like saying Daggerfall is better than Morrowind because it doesn't have 2 expansions that could've been in the original game...
Epic scale/size- The incompetence is shown here. So just because they've said "it will be the same size as Oblivion" they think that the world will be empty again. EXCEPT THAT'S WHAT THE MORE CONTENT IS SUPPOSED TO DO!
Combat, challenge- something else I might let slide but not really. If Dark souls is anything like Demon's Souls then it falls into the complete opposite side of things, it's unfairly hard.
Dragons- so because there's undead dragons (how innovative) it is better? So they're also unscripted, random, with new different tactics used in any surrounding?

saying a Corvette is a better vehicle than a cardboard box. It's just not a fair comparison.

So, basically what you are saying is Skyrim is a cardboard box? :D

Dark Souls will be an RPG competitor but it's a different branch of the genre. A whole different beast. Other than the pure challenge you get from enemies that don't cheat so any slipping is your fault(Very anti-RPG mechanics. Statistics is supposed to overrule player skill. Which is why HP is a higher stat than everyone having 100 health and lacking other stats like DT/DR and can be killed by a single headshot)

Demon's Souls from what I played was fun though.

Skyrim whatever way you look at it will sell good. Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Obsidian's New Vegas make up some of the best selling RPGs -ever-. And while not defeating many RPGs will be competitively good.

I see Deus Ex: Human Revolution as more of an RPG competitor to Skyrim(Solely as a game. Not sales. HR didn't sell even half of FO3's numbers in the first week let alone the even higher early sales of New Vegas) as it's a damn fine game in an industry that's lacked a well made game for the better part of the last decade or being less harsh past few years.

Skyrim in terms of content and funny enough mechanics beats out Dark Souls. But however some people will enjoy DS much more than Skyrim. That's not something to avoid.

Taken as a whole from first perspectives Skyrim overrules DS in every category barring challenge. Multiplayer not counting.

This was published? On an actual gaming website? For people to like...read...and take seriously? Oh my.

Okay, one at a time.

1.) I've been on these boards for a while and I think I've seen maybe two threads asking about MP content and only a small handful of posts wishing that Skyrim had some. Where is this army of fans that has "been asking for years" for MP content. A good portion of the draw of this series is that you DON'T have to deal with 12 year-old super-newbs doing nothing but trying to kill everything they see.

2.) Seriously? SERIOUSLY!? Dark Souls is the winner because it WON'T have DLC? Seri-what-the-[censored]-youmustbeoutyourgoddamnmind-I mean holy [censored] balls, that might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard anywhere about anything...

3.) "It feels bigger because of the mountains". Yeah, because that's the only thing they said right? Not the massive amount of quests or the way they're handelded by the Radiant system, or how many more NPCs there are, and how much more life-like they seem, or how much more dense the cities are, and how much more detail they contain, or...I say Dark Souls will "feel bigger because you'll pass through the same area about 30 times trying to get through it".

4.) Comabt doesn't get better simply because it is harder. Devil May Cry 3's combat was very difficult and also very fun, but still couldn't hold to the superior design choices and overall fantastic mechanics of God of War 2. Some people like a challenege and will enjoy the game more overall because of it. But that doesn't make anything about the game inheriently Better. I'm 99.9% certain that Skyrim on it's hardest difficulty setting will be MUCH harder than Dark Souls on anything but it's own max difficulty.

5.) From CraftDiamond
Lamo last point was basically: they both have dragons but dark souls dragons are better because they are in dark souls... whoever wrote this is just... I can't even think of a word for it without breaking into a herp-a-derp troll face.

And I'm spent.

How one can even write a pro/con about games that aren't even released yet is beyond me. It'd be like me publishing a journal on Astrophysics without any credentials or idea of what I was doing.

I signed up and left a comment. I already read it so they got the hit, I just feel they need to know the honest responses of people that are reading it. They can be biased all they want- when the comments section has 2k people laughing at how stupid they are, random people reading the article will see what's up.

I am a person that has pre-ordered DARK SOULS. I think it will be a great game, but from everything I have seen it looks the same as Demon's Soul just larger. I loved Demon's Soul and it took me back to when I first started playing games and you had to learn the patterns of enemies rather than just blindly charge ahead. That being said Skyrim is my most anticipated game period. Bottomline TES games are epic on a scale that many other games cannot reach. I am the type to buy the vanilla version for console and then when the inevitable GOTY comes out purchase that for my comp and load up on all the great mods.
