Post » Thu Mar 27, 2014 9:27 am

Well there are 2 ebonhearts :S old and new.

Edit: in eso only 'old' is built, so not referred to as old.

Not a lot to compare, try comparing New York City now and what was there a thousand years ago, things change a whole lot.

The difference in looks is really accountable - 1000 years + the sacking by the akavir + high king in TES:V had their seat in Solitude as opposed to windhelm. Not to mention one of windhelms jarls wad notorious for taxing his city into poverty. That's why the 4e windhelm looks so destitute and harsh.

All that being said I prefer the skyrim windhelm I think (though I haven't been able to walk around eso windhelm), but that's not tosay I don't like the eso windhelm. I think they both look great and appropriate for their time periods.

1,000 years ago, my town was nothing but grass fields. Wish they turned the graphics up from medium, though. :stare:

Thanks for the vid first off.

Now gonna get this out of the way, i don't like. I really don't like its presentation. I don't like the squeaky little voice of the lady narrating. And i definitely don't like the Skyrim vs TESO vibe that the video gives off.

As to which version of Windhelm i like better, i just have to say i hate Windhelm in general. Only city in Skyrim i dislike more is Markarth, but that's going afiled.....i dislike TESO version of Windhelm the least.

That because they're actually two different cities. Ebonheart in ESO (and in Arena) is on the mainland, Ebonheart in Morrowind is on VVardenfell.

As to Windhelm, I'd like to see it on a cloudy, snowy day in ESO to make a better comparison. Skyrims Windhelm certainly looks like it's been sitting there for quite a while versus the relatively cleaner/newer looking ESO version, which I guess fits considering the timeline.

Definitely could see that due to all of the attacks on the city the Nords over the years finally turned to the ways there ancestors built cities and used more stone than wood.

Windhelm in Skyrim looks like East Detroit.

"Let's compare the market places!" goes to the gray district :stare:

Anyway, not a fan of this new(old?) Windhelm, does give the impression to be one of the oldest human cities in Tamriel like the one in Skyrim did, not that i was too fond of that version either.

Though i'd rather see it for myself on Ultra, ESO really looked cartoony in comparision to Skyrim in that video.

Not to mention that the canopy (I guess that's what you call it) or roof over the bridge at the beginning of the video looks more Akaviri in architecture than Nordic.

If there is one constant about Tamriel, it is that it is ... constant. Following your example, the major cities in Skyrim would be nothing more than a seasonal temporary tent and a firepit in ESO.

One cannot use contemporary human cities as an example of historical Tamriel. Even Rome, which has clear indications of past civilizations dating back more than 1000 years, has one thing that Tamriel does not have, and that is the advancement of technology.

In all this time, Tamriel has been technologically stagnant. In all this time, Tamriel's population has been been essentially the same. In a stagnant world like Tamriel, more should be the same than different over 1000 years.

Even in our world, 1000 years is not enough to change the look of some things. More has changed in Tamriel over 1000 years than architecture and placement of buildings. A comparison of Cyrodiil between Oblivion and ESO makes that obvious.

Agreed and this is exactly what I am saying.

Now this will not turn me off to ESO at all, no. I understand that Zenimax has been working on this for a very long time and has its own "blueprints" of how these cities looked and that's fine but lore wise you'd almost have to say that between the Second Era and Fourth Era Windhelm was basically completely destroyed and rebuilt because of how different it is designed. Now this is certainly possible because of all of the battles and wars that took place over the years, especially since this Windhelm is only 8 years past a devastating attack by the Kamal (Akaviri race) so you'd argue most of this might be patch work to a bigger renovation but still.

haha! it is extremely annoying and one don't know if take it seriously...

Regarding the comparision, I think ZoS did a great job. Of course Windhelm is much more than in Skyrim and it is pretty obvious why. Can't wait to see play there!

Yeah I saw that too, sort of interesting given the Companions however the only thing that I can think of is that at this moment in time they were both in Skyrim, Fighters Guild probably left Skyrim after this Era(??)... the question I have... can we join The Companions?
