[WIPz] Iguanas

Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 7:17 am

While working on the male slave clothing add on for FNNCQ, I experimented a bit and tried to make a creature from the scratch. The little critters you can see in this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd9hcNS7SFk

are the result of this work. I know that there are a little troubles with the tail section which I have to correct but anyway I like them.

They are small, fast and easy to kill. I spawn them always in packs so that they are still a little challenge.

I plan to make a small quest to explain their sudden reappearance in the capital Wasteland and where all the Iguana On A Stick come from. As soon as the quest is done the player can find Iguana's everywhere.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Great! Now we'll need squirrels too xD

It would be great to have this in MMM, to bad it's not being upgraded anymore (?)

From the video imo they're too fast hahaha

@All thanks!

It was my first try to make textures from the scratch. I also was surprised how nice they look.
I am sure it doesn't take long to complete this mod. It's only a tiny quest so the wait shouldn't be to long. The thing that will take the most time is to reinstall my PC because I got a new mainboard and a new processor. But I got used to it in the meantime (first 2GB of my RAMs died, then my harddisk I had to make an upgrade.
Sorry no squirrels from me they are lot more complicated (I use a lot of molerat resources for the Iguanas) and I have to work on my other big mod soon.
I plan to make a additional version of this quest for MMM so you can use the spawn control of MMM. I use it myself.
I know that their movement is not realistic but if I make them slower they are to easy to kill.

great work sesom! any chance of putting up a tutorial for this?
i've also wondered where all the iguanas came from. :D

i couldn't really tell by looking at the video but it doesn't seem like they are doing any damage (perhaps this was on purpose?). but i think if they did like 1-3 damage and also hit you with some rads it would make them very challenging to deal with.

Looks great, I like the animation.

One suggestion, iguanas are cold blooded, so they should maybe only spawn during the day, when its sunny.

*Edit - I went to go close the youtube page after writing my comment, and saw this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hywYK-g0DlI&feature=related
so apparently, they're not only cold blooded, but shut down if it gets colder than 40 degrees (that's not that cold). It would be funny to come across packs of inanimate iguanas while roaming the wastes at night.

Yeah, do it like Martigen. Disable the spawnpoints during the night, enable during day.

Ooo!

I'd love to put these in Fallout Food! About time we had someplace for Iguana Meat to come from.

I'll be watching this thread with interest.

@falcon8204
You can find a excellent tutorial for creature and armour rigging on nexus: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/articles/article.php?id=196.
You are correct I cheated and was in god mode while recording the video. So they didn't make any damage. One Iguana makes only a little damage (the yellow one is a bit nastier he also is poisonious) but as I wrote in the first post, they always hunt in packs.

I like all the suggestions thanks. Here are my plans how I realize them:
Iguanas will be hunting during the day and are hidden in the night. Also sometimes 'frozen' ones can be found at night. The terrarium is also a good idea. I had planned to make a 'friendly' pet version but I wasn't sure if I should because as followers they are simply to weak. With this two ideas combined I have the solution: I make the 'frozen' Iguanas collectable and the player can put them in a buyable terrarium.
I already made a working portable grill for my camping gear mod. I add it also to this one so you can cook/grill your own 'Iguana On A Stick'.

@ReadViv
The last time I met 'Iguana Bob' to collect my protection caps he assured me that the sticks are real. But his prime selected bits always taste like ... chicken. I know. ;)

Great ideas everyone :D I know that when this is done and released, I am turning one or 2 into little companions to follow me around lol I just hope the NPC's don't start licking their lips when they see my pets :unsure:

Okay, nice to see your choice of words was not caused by lack of knowledge. ^_^

Anyway, your additions sound nice. Though I'd really want to see them just as passive critters that scatter once you're near.
Now if only someone would create birds, vultures sitting on branches that also fly away once you're near them, or fire a shot... :hehe:

Thankyou for this mod Sesom. It is always pleasure to meet another Creature Maker. Btw, if you need help with custom rigs or anything, let me know.

So, after Rad Spiders we now get Iguanas? Very nice. That is a nice addition to the game world. There are not very much animals in FO3 anyway. Cant wait till they are released.

@gurachn
Sorry the texture and animation doesn't look good if they are to big. So I think I make no giant Iguanas. But the spawnsizes may vary.

@Miss Sparkle
No problem. But they are pretty weak and be careful that your human companions doesn't step on them ;).

@RedViv
You can find both friendly and aggressive Iguanas. If you have the 'Animal Friend' perk all of them are peaceful.

@NillaCakester
Thanks for the offer. It's a little sideproject of mine to learn how to make creatures from the scratch (except animations). If I need help I contact you.

Now some progress report:
The questmechanics and new location which starts the Iguana infestation in the wastes is complete in the meantime. I also added a little bit of voice acting.
I made a new food item called 'Raw Iguana' (new mesh) which the player gets when dead Iguanas are collected. It's poisonous but this should be a good base for any food mods to produce 'Iguana on a Stick'.
Now I am working on the spawn scripts to get a few 'frozen' Iguanas at night and fully active critters during the day. I have to make two versions of this mod one for the normal game and one for MMM but I planned this anyway.
The last thing I plan to make before realease is the terrarium.

Sesom, I'm so happy to hear the iguanas will be friendly with the Animal Friend perk and more of your excellent voice acting? It must be Christmas! :)

Sorry it's not me acting this time. Simply to many males in my mods with the 'same' voice. But it is a professional voice actress. I don't want to spoil the surprise so no more details about these character.
