Illusion for a warrior?

Post » Wed Nov 27, 2013 2:36 pm

I wanted to know.

I was hoping to recreate Leysa, a Necromantic warrior.

And I made some changes that should do it for me. For one, I will use bound dual weapons (Or bound two handed, not sure yet.) and ofcourse Necromancy. Bound weapons dissapear magically so I don't have to worry about that awkward moment where you have no idea where the hell your weapon is sheathed when using magic.

But I find her build to be a bit meager with only Necromancy.

So, how would Illusion do the trick for a warrior like this?

A ''Dark Lord'' kind of figure would definitely put use to manipulation of one's mind no? Fury and especially fear come to my mind.

So yeah

One handed or Two-handed

Heavy armour

Smithing

Conjuration

Illusion

Enchanting

I'm not sure how I should put my points into magicka, health and stamina but I'll get to that.

Well, though this build isn't a heavy armored warrior or necromancer, it does make great use of illusion magic and melee combat. http://theskyrimblog.ning.com/group/character-building/forum/topics/character-build-the-nightingale-swordsman

The thing about illusion is that without sneak it is kind of mediocre for melee combat. Frenzy spells are best done from stealth so the enemy focuses on each other rather than you, but a frenzy spell in the midst of a battle could create some chaos in the enemy ranks. Fear spells would be kind of annoying for a melee fighter as you would have to chase enemies. They should be saved for a sort of panic button to get enemies off of you. Calm spells could also serve as a way to break combat for a moment, but that's about it. The invisibility spell isn't very useful for someone who can't sneak well.

Isn't Fear and Calm essentially the same?

Not at all. The only thing they share is that enemies stop being hostile.

Fear makes them run, Calm makes them stand around.

I feel that Illusion would be more of an atmospheric skill for this build.

You know, summon two Soul Cairn minions. And then strike fear into enemies.

Watch the enemy flee from me, falling into the hands of my undead pals.

Not really.

Fear makes enemies run and doesn't fade as soon as you attack, unlike Calm. Calm's good for backstabbing or to avoid violence from groups if you want to take them on one on one. Your followers also don't continue to attack Calmed opponents, unlike those affected by fear. Fear's good if you enjoy chasing down your enemies with no chance of them fighting back. Both are good to avoid violence altogether.

Sounds like a Death Knight build. I like it.

This is a little tough - what difficulty are you playing? WIll you make full use of vendors?

You've got to split your perks across melee and magic skills which means you won't become comfortably powerful in any single aspect. You'll also have to split health/stamina/magicka increases across all three. Personally, I really liked my two-handed/heavy armor orc (she specialized in war hammers) but I didn't put anything into magicka for that build. It was something like 3/1 stamina to health.

You also have no range attack unless you count conjuration - which you should but conjured critters have relatively short duration so you'll have to fall back and recharge your magicka or you'll have to be so good with melee that your familiar only serves as a crutch/distraction not a real weapon/shield.

Illusion magic is closely geared to your level so I think you may outsrip your illusion magic unless you perk it aggressively. Maybe you can drop illusion and just stick with enchanting and conjuring? Once you get good with everything, you'll be a real force but the road there might be a bit bumpy. Good luck!

looks fun

I plan for my next one to be a rogue necromancer, it would be pretty similar to yours minus armor though XD

I play on adept.

No plans on ranged, aside from shouts. I've had this type of build before, but then I used frost destruction rather than illusion. I want to remake this character but want to go from ''cold'' to ''nightmare''. A very Gothic inspired character. I think that with dual bound weapons she'd be pretty strong, together with Daedric armour. My idea was to make this character much of a leader figure, whom the undead from the Soul Cairn view as their queen. I think I'll have about 150 stamina, and then put the rest in health and magicka. With the use of enchanting I had plans to increase my magicka with the gear so that I may put more points in health.

Oh! I completely forgot about Shouts. I've gotten in the habit of doing the MQ last - kind of a final accomplishment before retiring a PC. I'm you're build will be much more potent with Shouts. Have fun!
