Illusion magic cap.

So I've read various topics about Illusion magics level cap (i.e. The frenzy, charm and calm spells) some say the spells cap at 40, others say with invested perks those listed spells don't even have a level cap. I plan to play my character as sort of an Illusion battle mage who tricks his foes into fighting for him, and against each other. Then wades into battle with an undead minion and slices through any survivors. I sort of envision him as a Death Knight type character. Though, the crux of this character is twisting his opponents minds and turning them against each other. If this ability caps out at a certain level and no longer effects NPCs then my strategy is effectively useless.

Now, since I've heard that those spells listed above cap out at a certain level, but I have also heard they don't. Can anyone here varify this for me with certainty? I'm not trying to be rude but I don't want to hear, "I don't think so, but I haven't tried". I just want to hear from someone who knows first hand.

Thanks in advance.

I think this is a great idea for a fun character (in fact, I want to do something relatively similar myself). Here's what I have read here. Apparently the caps are heavily increased by the perks you get. The Kindred Mage perk increases the level it affects by 10, while the individual spell type ones increase the levels those spells affect by 12. So the top tier spells would then affect level 47. Dual casting apparently doubles the level the spell affects. It's unclear whether it doubles the original value or also doubles the previously mentioned bonuses as well. Either way, the top tier spells would then affect either level 94 or 72. These would certainly affect anything you'll find in the game, even really late. Even level 47 would be pretty effective all game, as most enemies seem to be lower level than you (my calm spell that works on level 9 and below is still working on fairly tough enemies like frost trolls and I am level 15).

Yeah. I recall that Oblivion had a hard NPC cap of 35. This post of yours is very encouraging and I think I will get at my Illusion Battle Necromancer immediately.
