Illusionist Build?

Post » Mon Oct 25, 2010 7:44 am

Hey guys! I think I've figured out the character I want to make. It would be a character that mainly uses illusion spells. He normally trys to avoid a fight by manipulating peoples emotions. However when there is just no avoiding it he will either send a bolt of magic at you or cut you up into little tiny pieces / put an arrow right between your eyes. Anyway, could someone help me with a build for this type of character? Thanks! (:

Alright. .

The basics is that the attributes shouldn't really matter other than intelligence is more favored than the others. After all, many of the high level illusion spells require quite a bit of magicka. For the second attribute, it's your choice. If you want to use a blade as a followup to an illusion attack, pick strength. If you want to use a bow, pick agility. Etc.

For class set up, it's also very much dynamic as there is much room for flexibility.

Illusion - You know why
Alteration/Mysticism - A good pair of sister skills to illusion from my experience. Again pick one or the other, not both. Alteration for walking on water and open lock spells, not to mention breathing underwater. But mysticism is a better pick here because of soul trap.
Blade/Marksman - Choose one or the other, not both.
Light Armor/Heavy Armor - Choose light if you want to use a bow, pick heavy for blade. Either way, you'll want to prefer light as you'll most likely be sneaking around. But 100% Chameleon could be used so your choice.
Alchemy - At mid to high levels, you can make Restore Magicka and other useful potions. Great to get a jump start.
Sneak - You'd be using invisibility spells so learning how to sneak would make your life much easier.
For the last skill, it's your choice. But I recommend Armorer or Mysticism.

For gameplay, there's obviously much room.

You have said a couple things on your post but remember, your character is NOT a fighter so don't go charging head first into battle. You could either sneak past them with a powerful chameleon spell or do the same and kill them. Focus on Illusion, Alteration, and Sneak the most. They are your MOST important skills as playing as an illusionist as you'll most likely be sneaking past them and if you can get a sneak critical, most enemies will fall. Of course, to make sure, use your Alchemy skill to poison your blade or arrows. JOIN THE MAGE'S GUILD. Unless you're roleplaying some outcast or recluse, just join the Mage's Guild. You don't even have to be promoted in the Guild. Just to the recommendation quests and just learn a powerful Soul Trap spell and train your mysticism. Then enchant your blade or bow for a guaranteed one hit KO.

I would definitely not use any armor so that you can have 100% spell effectiveness always. Any weapon type would probably work so I would say just use whatever weapon skill you prefer. Additionally block is probably a good idea since you won't have armor. Maybe have hand to hand as a major, but also use blade when it feels appropriate (not a major skill though). Illusion (obviously), conjuration, restoration, and alteration are the magic schools I would go with. Alteration will give you the best backup to armor you can get, and a combination summon dagger/fortify strength/ fortify blade spell will make you feel like a blade master without having a high skill level. Maybe instead have no weapon (or hand to hand) major, and make 3 spells when you are able, the one I mentioned before for blade, a similar one for blunt, and a third one with more powerful fortify hand to hand/strength but no bound weapon because it is the hand to hand spell. This could add to the illusionist feel because you are not skilled with any weapon, but casting a simple spell will give you a powerful weapon and good skill with it.

You literally hit the nail on the head here. This was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks a bunch : )

just a heads up, if you wear any armor at higher levels (thus making your spell effectiveness less than 100%) your frenzy/command/etc. spells wont affect enemies higher than level 25. There might be a mod or something to fix this but I'm on 360 so I wouldn't know

I posted sth on another thread and I dont know if this approach would fit ur intentions. this is the post:

"here's actually a character i've figured out i'd give it a try , once i hit the lotto: a false prophet or serpent speaker or sth like this.

since i learnt how to 'incite' riots (by casting or attacking undetected), i was curious at how much chaos i could create by having some followers or gathering a crowd and just casting frenzy or sth that would make s.o. attack others, and just sit and watch the ensuing urufubaca.

This is probably a sorceror type of guy, and i imagined him with these skills:

Illusion, Speechcraft, Alteration,Sneak, Mysticism, Restoration, Destruction

I'm not sure about all the skills, but the first four would pretty much be necessary (maybe switch Mysticism for Archery?). this would allow the cahracter to build some reputation, attract followers, 'deceive' about his intentions (even by following the MQ to a certain point) and then just unleashing chaos whenever meeting a considerable crowd.

Think it is worth a try?"

You could just use a stalk magic class and play as an illusionist.
