Images of Lorkhan

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 2:22 am

I found some images of Lorkhan and wondered which most closely resembles the missing god...

Edit...I also decided I like lady Nerevar's depiction of Shor better

Shor don't got no knife-ears.

We have no idea what Lorkhan actually looks like. All we've got is that he uses the symbol of a scarab and that his corpse is the moons. That image is just a fan interpretation.

Personally, I've always viewed him to look something like http://crimegorilla.8m.com/art/Scarab3.GIF. It's a puzzle in Redguard where it starts as a http://www.warhorsesim.com/kurt/resume_files/scarab.GIF and then ends looking like a man, and as I recall, there's a slot putting emphasis on the heart. The Dwemer made it, and they seemed to acknowledge the relevance of Lorkhan. Makes sense to me.

As far as fan art goes, I've always liked http://daryam.com/Blog/?p=579.

The books I read never got me to think of Lorkhan as a typical trickster. He is not the sly stealthy underhanded con artist in my eyes. He is more of a burly guy that seduces you with free booze and when the last of your brain cells have raised the white flag Lorkhan goes “hey I got a GREAT idea…”

While I'm a fan of Gadroon's art, I don't think any of them really do justice to Lorkhan. One of his only characteristics is his missing heart and the association with scarabs, and neither are present. I tried to play off Alduin in my sketch, but I'm not wholly fond of it, either. Ada had some nice sketches of Shor (and I do mean the Nordic badass Shor), maybe he'll post them.

Well, Shor probably has very serpentine-like traits. At least when he is in his Totem form. Same with Sep.

Edit: Some Nordic burial sights have snake statues around the coffins and sarcophagus'. Due to association with Sovngarde, it's probably Shor. Or Arkay/Orkey, due to his association with death.

It also has a helmet, so he has war traits, too.

I have to say Lorkhan should not look like that, I imagine something better and bigger.

A moon with the same mass as Masser and Secunda combined, with a big ol' heart in the centre.

That artist has done interpretations of many TES figures, by the way. I'd suggest you check them out.

It seems like those pictures were inspired by Dagoth Ur and the Sixth House. Actually, it could easily pass for Dagoth Ur. Long black hair, elf ears, red Sixth House-looking outfits.

I like Lady Nerevar's illustration.

I imagine that the Dwemer designed Anumidium to resemble Lorkhan as much as possible, so conversely, Lorkhan would resemble http://www.imperial-library.info/content/divine-metaphysics or http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:MW-place-Akulakhan.jpg.

Depends on who's looking. Cyrods would see Shezzar the crusader, valiently protecting the physical world with a gleaming sword, whereas the Altmer would probably see a devil-type figure-- elegantly dressed, tall, thin, attractive, all the better to lure the Aedra to their doom.

The http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111127020749/elderscrolls/images/3/33/Hail_Sithis_by_Atomic_Breegull.jpg seen in the Deepscorn Hallow DLC in Oblivion might also be relevant when considering what Lorkhan looks like. The giant hole in his chest gives away his true identity. Not that you can see his face or anything.

The Dwemer would see nothing. Vivec and Talos would see themselves.

But Saint_Jiub has a point. Lorkhan, Shor, Sep, and Shezarr would all look different. Dunmer Lorkhan and Altmer Lorkhan would probably look different.

Somehow I always see a young, dollar-trilogy era Clint Eastwood before me. Just more in armour and less in cowboyboots and ponchos.

The kind of man that can both embody the trickster as well as the warrior.
