To quote the truck driver from Full Throttle:

Not gonna happen.

I really need to check GoG to see if they have that game for modern systems yet.

Considering it's going to be a good while before we see another installation in the Fallout series, I would like a new engine to be created for the next game - taking inspiration from other games' key engine mechanics such as the RGL renderless scape of say, GTA. I realize to create a new engine would take a considerable amount of time (however less so if some base functions were copied) but I'd rather wait a longer time for a great game than a short time for a good game.

And no, I highly doubt iD's Tech 5 would suit an RPG with a style such as Fallout. On the topic of RAGE, however - I am looking forward to that game immensely.

Now all they need to do is buy Obsidian so that in the same house they have great story tellers (Obsidian) a great engine designer (iD), and a great 'atmosphere' producer (Bethesda).

And I very much agree that Bethesda/ZeniMax should acquire Obsidian. They already acquired Arkane Studios, so why not acquire another great developer of RPGs?

I also agree - potentially it would leave Bethesda free to focus on the ES games and Obsidian could do future FO titles :)

Hopefully FO4 uses a up to date console graphic engine something crazy like Gear of War

Only thing holding back the Fallout series is the PC cause they need to use a more simple user friendly outdated graphic engine that's been around what 5 years now?

Other way around. Most PCs these days outstrip consoles big time. Lets not make this a console vs PC thing though. I think it's a lot more fun to speculate what kind of engine they will use, how it will be improved from this one, what the possibilities of it will be. IMO the biggest mistake they could make is releasing a FO or TES game WITHOUT mod tools. I mean, I probably wouldn't play either series if it weren't for the mods fixing all my major gripes with the games.

I don't care what engine it runs on, as long as they release a toolset for it

Oh and Obsidian makes most of the game

I'd actually prefer Bethesda over Obsidian because F:NV didn't feel fufilling like F3, I know it's off topic but I say Bethseda makes most of the game.

No.

gamesas doing the world, and Obsidian writing, dialogues and character creating + gameplay mechanics.
NV was full-filling enough to qualify as a good Fallout game.

Hell, Obsidian is basicly the old Black Isle staff, makers of Fallout 1 and 2!
