Immersion for my mod to rent out houses?

I'm making a mod that allows the player to rent out any of his player owned homes and each upgrade increases the rent the player gets.

But I'm not sure about what is the most immersive way to do it.

Currently I'm thinking of having a plaque/sign/object outside the player owned house that the player can "activate" to start the renting mod off and click it again to stop the mod.

But when the player gets paid I've currently got the gold going straight into the players inventory each day. Other ideas I've had are to have a sack or chest outside the house that the player can access as the rent accumulates like in Fable, or the gold could be sent to the Imperial Office of Commerce where you get the first IC Shack from.

What would be the most immersive way to start the mod and then receive the gold each day or week or whenever?

I think you need to make an NPC that is a Real Estate Agent. You hire him or her and have them rent out your homes for you. There could be lots of dialoge choices about what kind of renters you want and who you will allow and for how much. That kind of thing. The office could be in the IC.

Then you could have money desposited at the Real Estate office where you have to go to pick it up.

This could also open up some quests that could be added to this. Maybe you have to help your renters out of a jam or they won't be able to pay you. Or, you have to evict your renters because your agent rented out rooms to the Dark Brotherhood.

Also, just curious, if the house is rented, can you still sleep there?

Thanks, some good ideas to keep me busy.

The player will have his key removed I think and the door will be locked. The player will have to end the renting to get the key back.

I'm not sure though, might be kind of cool to have the player able to enter and have some NPC's living there. Only issue with NPC's is they knock stuff around sometimes and might make a mess if the player has arranged items in there. But could be good for evil character, to rent out his room then creep in at night to kill them or feed.
