Immersive first person cameras

The game where you play as an infant was... FALLOUT 3... http://kotaku.com/someone-actually-played-through-all-of-fallout-3-as-a-b-1722578011

Played it all the way to the end... MY GOD...

But the infant game I think you was thinking of was "Among The Sleep".

I don't think BGS will ever do a full first-person view in any game they do, unless of course they find they can do a full first-person view without sacrificing much in the way of development resources. Of course, there is the possibility that Todd Howard doesn't like full first-person perspectives in games, but I'm not aware of him ever saying one way or another what his thoughts are on being able to see your character's/characters' legs in the first person view.

There always seem to be mods for it, though.

....I can only imagine "full body visibility" combined with some of the body mods that have been made for OB/SK/FO3. You'd never be able to see your character's legs.

(Oof, and combine that with any of the "bouncing" mods.... )

Hmm, wonder if it would be possible to mod OUT a visible first-person body if they made the mistake of putting it in?

edit: more seriously, I can only imagine that view & some of the outfits (hugely bulky armor, full rad suit, mascot outfit - although we've only seen a head so far, etc) not combining well. Would also say Power Armor, but they've made that a vehicle not an outfit....

The problem resides not only in games, but infests all kinds of software. It totally creeps me out that I cannot see my hands, or my keyboard, in Microsoft Word. In college, my grades suffered because I could not stay immersed in Word. :(

But nobody is saying they can't see their own physical hands or controller in the game. That's a terrible and false comparison, I don't even know how your mind must function to consider the two comparable..

This.

Plus I've played some TES mods that added the inside of your helmet to your view, so if you were wearing a full helmet all you could see is a few slits of the world through the eye holes. If you are crying about not seeing your legs, try a mod like that and get back to me.

Only seeing my arms and weapons has never been a problem for me. Going 3rd person is especially bad since I can't really see or aim at what my PC is seeing, the game engine has to do it for me. What fun is that.

Immersion? I want to play the game; not be in it!

Why would people who desired to be able to see their legs when they looked down want to try out a mod like that? And how would that affect their desire to see their legs in FP? What is it with the bizarre comparisons in this forum? The helmet mod obviously obscures your vision (and you COULD always take the helmet off), visible legs don't affect the game whatsoever unless you look at them.

The point is if you MUST see what you would see in RL in the game then you MUST also use helmet view mods, mods that show your hair in your eyes if you PC has long hair, shaky cam for walking/running, etc. and etc.

If you don't want realistic, you just want legs because it makes the game awkward to you if you don't see your legs. Well, I'll be honest I don't walk around in RL looking down at my feet all the time so it doesn't bother me. You wanting it so badly isn't going to change that. If enough people want it I'm sure it will get modded in.

As far as it being awkward for a leg to suddenly appear if you want to kick someone, that isn't any more awkward than your arms and weapon popping up when you ready your gun.

You don't find that awkward and jarring? You're also sort of confusing a desire for a slight amount of realism with the demand for hyper-realism. I mean why even bother with animations or graphics at all? Why bother with voiced NPCs? Why bother with audio etc. etc.

No. In fact I find it awkward in a game if I looked down and saw my legs and feet. For one thing if I am in game and looking down, it isn't so I can see if my shoes are untied, I'm looking down to see if there is something to pick up, or a land mine, etc.

yeah i've played skyrim, fallout nv, and oblivion with it. Skyrim and fallout nv's version of it looked fine, and also gave the option to never leave first person view (i hated that skyrim made you go third person to ride horses or turn into a werewolf). The one for oblivion though added in this bobbing deal when you walked, it also put your hands where they would actually be instead of them being visible at all times. It made combat awkward because you didn't ever see you weapon, and the bobbing motion gave me motion sickness.

I don't care if they show off our protagonists bodies, as long as they don't add in that walking motion.

The fps games I have played I could ONLY ever see arms and legs.

I could NEVER see face and body and I could NEVER turn around and look at my character and also NO third person , EVER..

So no.. I don't think it is..

It is mainly an fps just as FO3 was, even more so with Bethesda putting effort on having more accurate gunplay this time around.

Yeah would like this to be added. Not sure it will be. Being a floating camera does kill immersion. Was one of my most like Skyrim mods. Looking down and seeing what armour I'm wearing. The battlefield games do the whole body thing well.

The original Operation flashpoint had it in 2001, I don't know if any earlier games than that had it.

I want to see this, I find being a floating pair of arms offputting these days. And it would probably be good for people who play with VR headsets

I reckon they won't do it though, bethesda never seem to have shown any interest in stuff like this.

Good to read some various thoughts and objections. I'll ignore the clueless remarks, basically my interest came from the first person mods for Skyrim and new Vegas after playing GTA5 and Arma on PC. I'd be interested to know if it's a resource thing and/or industry standard thing. I guess my issue is that a number of people here saying things like I don't want to be in it I want to play it. Why should fallout 4s default for first person be a dumbed down doom version perspective. Fallout is first and foremost a story and shooter second. If you don't like it they can make an option for hidden body so you aren't disturbed or confused by having a body.

If you could Vr matrix-style into a fallout game you wouldn't? Oh please.

I've despised the word since Doom first came out. We can all agree that "getting into the zone" in a game is good, but that word just makes me roll my eyes and want to moan out loud....

In gameplay terms, immersion means you feel part of the world... not physically be inside it... although with the latest VR coming closer and closer even that is getting blurry.

A game is immersive when you go to have a quick game and suddenly nine hours have passed and your bladder feels like it's about to burst. Immersion is making you forget the real world. Fallout tends to do that for me...
