How many have there been? I know of Jagar Tharn and Chancellor Ocato. Was there more?

First of all, no need to double post after only three hours. The lore forum is hardly ever that active that a thread will become lost.

Secondly, there's literally been hundreads of Imperial Battlemages, they've been around atleast since the begining of the second era, and most likely since the formation of the Alessian Empire (or when the Elder Council was first established), TIL is filled with lots of references to them and http://search.freefind.com/find.html?id=72791987&pageid=r&mode=ALL&n=0&query=battlemage

I still see a difference between "the Imperial Battlemage" and "an Imperial Battlemage".
The former is the title and position of the Imperial Battlemage, counselor and - at least in case of Ocato, chancellor to the Emperor and official lighter of the Imperial Torch In The Gloom. The latter, in a narrower sense, would be those Imperial Battlemages who were trained in the Battlespire (i.e. a member of the elite profession group of the "Imperial Battlemages"). Of course, the Imperial Battlemage can be an Imperial Battlemage, but not every Imperial Battlemage is the Imperial Battlemage.

I'm well aware of this, though normally when not talking of the 'grand' Imperial Battlemage, and rather the ones imployed as legion troops generally they are referred to as 'battlemages' instead.

There had to have been hundreds, considering how old the position is. I can think of one more who is NAMED in the lore... our old buddy Zurin. ;)

Emphasis fast becoming on the past tense. The last Imperial Battlemage to have been created would have been the unknown hero who survived Dagon's invasion of the Battlespire - and that should show you just how long Dagon has been aiming at deleting then Septim line. First destroy the backbone of Imperial military might then use the [censored] son of a Bosmer/Breton Necromancer to manipulate the remaining Ayelieds into assassinating thr Imperial Line.

If you get a chance to play Battlespire I think you will eventually be impressed by just how huge it was. The Dragon cavern alone is totally massive and those that were Dragon Companions and riders were another part of that defense that Dagon eliminated.

Basically the Battlespire was a gigantic testing ground and the aspirants were trained even as they were tested. Interesting that it was not replaced immediately eh?

We all know about what happened at Battlespire. I think he was referring to the office of "Imperial Battlemage", as in the Emperor's battlemage.

Speaking of the battlemage college Battlespire, however, I had always assumed that a replacement had been made already, since there are currently young battlemages in Cyrodil. We didn't see it in Cyrodil while playing the game Oblivion, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist in some other province.

Once again, it's just an assumption of mine. I never really gave it much thought. ;)

However, if the "new" battlemage school does exist, I doubt very seriously that it produces battlemages of the same caliber as the ones that hail from the Battlespire.
