Imperial Edition and Regular Edition

Post » Mon Mar 24, 2014 10:22 pm

Hello,

I have watched a few youtubers such as Angry Joe and Force Strategy, And after giving it some thought Iv decided to post my opinion on what ZeniMax and Bethesda should do for the Elder Scrolls Pre-orders.

As most of you if not everyone knows by now the 'Imperial Edition' comes with the Imperial race and a mount ect, This raises the issue of 'I payed for the game and I'm paying the sub fee why can't I have the Imperial Race'. Now my suggestion to fix this is open up the Imperial race to everyone make the Regular Edition have a '3 day early access, the Scuttler pet and the Treasure map' then allow the Imperial Edition to have '5 days Early Access, the Mount for level 10, the Mudcrab, the Treasure Map and the Rings for EXP boost with a friend' That is enough to justify the price and also the sub fee. Whether it be console or PC shouldn't matter just what Edition you choose. Please don't get money hungry with these pre-orders.

Also what ever you do PLEASE DO NOT go free to play, If you want to add a micro-transactions store in the game DO NOT add 'Pay to Win' to it, Things like a few different mounts (not the best and fastest mounts) just a few good mounts like maybe some different types of horses ect this way it won't break the game for those who wan't to find the good stuff in-game and people can also opt to get a decent mount for $10 or what ever (again don't get money hungry).

PLEASE ZeniMax and Bethesda, DO NOT ruin this, I love the Elder Scrolls series it's one of my favorite RPG series if not my favorite game series ever since Morrowind. I wan't this game to succeed, people who say "I'm just going to wait for free to play" can either pay like everyone else or not play. DON'T give in to them, If you wan't this game to be a serious competitor to WoW then have faith in keeping it subscription based, do the right thing.

Thank you

$%^& this "Angry Joe" and "Force Strategy" ... never heard of them, except for bad things, and I've been gaming since the Commodore 64.

Any moron with a Gmail account can start a "gamer" Youtube channel or "gaming blog" site... doesn't mean that they have any more intelligence or sense than a root vegetable.

And my observations so far conclude that the root vegetables are winning.

Yes anyone can make a youtube channel BUT Angry Joe has like 1.3 million subscribers and Force Strategy has like 341k subs. That isn't something you get overnight. I suggest you go watch what they have to say about ESO they have good and bad things to say and more to the point they can actually justify their opinions properly.

Why would they ever make such changes so close to launch?

Ain't gonna happen man, not now, not ever. They'd have to refund everyone who bought already (at least the US customers due to consumer protection laws).

I have watched them. Sheer numbers of "sheep" viewers are irrelevant. Look at the ratings for lame Youtube channels, crap American network television (i.e. Dancing With the Stars, etc.)... they have massive numbers as well, it doesn't mean they aren't crap.

They don't have to change it before launch they could open up the Imperial race though to all players at least, I mean we are paying full price + the sub fee. We should get the full game which includes all races.

That's a good point but doesn't mean their opinions should be looked at as 'who cares what they think' They still make some good points such as if you pay full price for a game why shouldn't you get the full game? ect

Is this another "Imperial should be open to everyone" thread?

Because the suggestion you stated is to just open it up to everyone and that causes problems as well. They did state that the Imperial race will be exclusive to the CE edition.

Personally I think it should remain as is. IF there is a need to open up the race to everyone, then it should be through in game mechanics. Although I'm not crazy about Neverwinter, they could take a page out of their book in how they opened up the Menzoberranzan Drow. After XX number of days of play then the account opens up the race. The CE people are happy because they bypass this time gate. And the regular editions now get access.

But honestly I'm happy with it as is.

As an imperial pre-order subscriber you'll also be a little better person than the rest.

At first I asked myself who got this old thread out of its grave but hey, its a new one....

Well, no changes this close to launch, forget it. Early access is a week from now.

Also, as far as I know the Imperial Edition is available after launch for everyone to upgrade to so....

Hmm....Maybe full price is $89.99. The $59.99 is actually a discount price. *shrug*. A matter of perspective.

I honestly don't see it as a big deal. Cyrodiil is essentially a third world country in TESO setting and the three alliances are fighting for the right to remake it in their own way. If we were to have the option to start a character in Cyrodiil, maybe the race should be opened up to everyone, but as the game stands now i see no problem with ppl that want the option to be an Imperial having that chance if they don't mind paying a bit more.

And really this close to launch, i think we should all just svck it up as far as payment scheme and etc are concerned. Either we accept it and play or we say no and don't play.

This is better than most MMO's ... some still do it. Pre-order from vendor X and get Y as an "exclusive" bonus!

Not to mention that EVERY MMO in the past 5 years has offered "collector's edition"/"deluxe"/etc. versions at launch, with "exclusive" perks.

Just consider the Imperial edition as the "deluxe" version.

I don't like angry Joe or force myself. Or really, any of them. The guys that stream have attitude issues, and the girls that stream, well, they look like bimbos to me.

The ICE and standard are fine where they are.

GW2 although free to play, have done similar things, and really i think it's good for their business.

There's an elite skill that you can only get by buying the CE upgrade for GW2, you can buy it with cash or gold, though with current exchange rates, gold would be a tad expensive.

My point is this:

you don't need that elite skill. If you want it you can get it.

You don't Need to be an imperial, but if you want it you can get it.

If ZOS keep the Imperial Edition upgrade in their shop then the option is always there, this is extra revenue for them. Game sales and subs are well and fine, but for a company to prosper it has to look at all options, and Imperials are not likely to be P2W.. well not if ZOS aren't stupid....

I hear the "slippery slope" argument, and i agree, it is a slippery slope and developers should be very wary and alert at all times lest they disenfranchise their customer base, but just as in life you cannot make someone learn or know something, they have to want it first.

So while I say that its good to have good business practice I do advise ZOS to practice self restraint, and that is all we can do... other than walking away from 'another' developer's/publisher's wrecked dreams ... yet again...

Exclusive content has always been mounts, pets, early level boosts and vanity items.

New races has always been something exclusive to expansions, except in free to play games where "pay to play race X" is common .

I have my imperial edition and don't really care, but i don't think it's unreasonable to be upset by it.

Not true. I can recall several MMO launches that gave distinctive races/classes.

The one that springs directly to mind is Shadowbane. And Star Trek Online at launch... you could only play a bonded Trill with the Deluxe game version. And you can only play a liberated Borg character after purchasing a Lifetime subscription. Etc., etc. ...

Meh, I don't see what the big deal is. I have the Imp Ed and honestly I don't think I'll be making an Imperial character unless an interesting roleplay opportunity presents itself. Really in my opinion they are the least appealing race. Sure the experience bonus is nice but if you are looking long term play that ability is eventually going to be useless once you're max level playing end game content. In any game I play if you have an option to choose an ability that makes it so you level faster I choose something more useful in the long run and in this game I'm sure an Imperial will be last on the list of races I choose to play. On the other hand nothing in the Imp Edition makes an impact on end game content and the only reason I baught it is because I don't like the idea of being denied content even if it is something I won't be using, so there is that.

I have been in a few mmos, and I've seen it happen before where things that were exclusive to a CE became available to all players eventually.
They wont do it upfront, but wont suprise me if its done later.

Just be ready for the [censored]storm here on the forums when that happens... CE buyers will feel scammed, and no it wont be the first time it happens

their marketing team know people just cave for power and also golorify their money by saying imperials aren't something OP.

But they are obviously above other races no matter what you choose to play (yes even spellcaster), you are buying power, plain and simple, put all the logic and all the math to it, thats what the truth is, even if people stick to the "i just bought it because of the horse" or "because I want to play imperial".

Marketing team knows most people will keep paying unless it's something obvious like the sword of divine who smites the whole server dead every 30 seconds for 19.99, but in my book that and this "imperial edition" are on the same basket.

Not a number cruncher myself, I’d love to see the math behind this statements on why imperials are better for everything :o
