Imperial Libary fail - Caius Cosades

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:42 am

I thought I was dreaming, but Imperial Libary states that good old Caius is Skooma addict. So much for reliable info site...

...

He tells you he is. It's right there in the in-game dialogue.

I find it to just be a cover. But yeah, he does flat out tell you that he's an addict. Hell, he has moon sugar and the pipe in his hovel.

Think Sherlock Holmes being a cokehead. It's pretty much the same idea, these highly effective and intelligent men need some way to unwind despite the extreme weight of responsibility.

It's just a cover (who would think that a long time skooma user is Spymaster), he talks way too sane to be one...

EDIT: Wow, I just figured this is Lore forum. The Elder Scrolls Series Discussion is more logical place to be... or not to be.

While being a skooma addict is part of Caius cover I think it's unlikely that he doesn't partake a bit - it's hard to maintain a cover like that through paraphernalia alone.

Well, as the grandspymaster, I'm sure he has access to the best rehab program in all of Tamriel when he's done.

Maybe.

The old greyhair gobbles sugar like scuttle. Chirranirr is surprised he still walks. But it doesn't affect him. That is the mark of a long-time user.

We cant know for sure...

Took kind of an unneccessary potshot at The Imperial Library site, there, eh?... If you had played MW and talked to Caius and looted his room (like one would do :) or is that just me? ) then the "he's a skooma addict certainly has some sound basis as being part of the character.

Yeah but at least Xan could have mentioned the possibility that it's a cover.

I tend to think that he has been using it so long, not to mention the immunity to poisonous substances that any self-respecting spymaster would cultivate, that it doesn't really effect him much. he does use it, and regularly enough so that everyone outside the Blades just figures him for some old skooma-head, but his cover is that it's not a cover.

Spies are fun that way.

He mentions when explaining his recall that there is some concern about his moon sugar among the higher ups.

Not just that...

Internal politics. Some concern about my sugar. I thought about refusing the recall. But they have members of my family back in the capital. I'm afraid it may have something to do with the problems with the succession. As the Emperor's health declines, factions are maneuvering for advantage. I may be gone a while -- that's why you're promoted to Operative.

Not just that...

Doesn't change the fact that the concern is exists, by caius' own admission.

Haha! There are many things at TIL to criticize, but this is very low on the list -- if it's even on the list at all.

I get the impression that the OP is suggesting that Cauius Skooma problem may have been cover. The relevant lines he so helpfully didn't provide are:

"I'm just an old man with a skooma problem."

"Interesting old fellow. Been in Balmora a long time, since before the District reorganization. Been in some trouble, but he apparently knows some people. Goes off for a while, then comes back. He's a veteran, I think -- has friends over at Fort Moonmoth. Don't know where he gets his money, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't legal."

"The old greyhair gobbles sugar like scuttle. Chirranirr is surprised he still walks. But it doesn't affect him. That is the mark of a long-time user."

"I don't know what your business with him is, but be careful. Caius Cosades may appear to be a pathetic old man, but don't judge by appearances. Some people made that mistake a while ago, and now they're not with us anymore."

Best cover is the true cover. Also, people can be drug addicts and still fully functional, depending on the drug.

And this quote you listed makes me think people have witnessed him doing it: "The old greyhair gobbles sugar like scuttle. Chirranirr is surprised he still walks. But it doesn't affect him. That is the mark of a long-time user."

I like to think that he started this guise as a cover-identity but has regressed to become a bit of an addict. I mean, it's Morrowind - as the Spymaster I'm sure he's had to infiltrate a seedy den/tavern or two and join in among the others.
