Imperials are underrated as a racial group

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 3:08 pm

Playing as one now. Feel like a true badass. Imperials are know for their intellect, diplomatic skill, and discipline. Ancient Rome was awesome, and so is Imperial culture and history.

Actual in game bonuses aren't as good, in fact their gold bonus is probably the worst...but the calm spell is useful.

Definitely not enough respect for these folks around here.

Blame the civil war for most of the imperial hate here.

Imperials shouldn't exist as a distinct race. They are supposed to be a culture that trancends race, comprised of ALL the races meeting in the middle of the Arena (Also known as Tamriel) and getting sick of the other province's [censored], then curbstomping them into getting along.

I'd rather blame Morrowind and Redguard for pulling a completely new race out of the lore's collective ass, and in the process completely killing the depth from the Nordic and Breton races.

DING DING DING, we have a winner.

There's nothing badass about them. What dunmer said the "Cyrodiilic Dogs" ran from the Akavir at Pale Pass?

There is nothing wrong with the Imperials becoming a race, they are fine as a distinctive race especially when you take into consideration the Nibens and Colovians. There have always been humans in Cyrodiil and sure I'd rather see Colovians and Nibens as a race instead of the imperial melting pot.

Saying they "shouldn't be a race" because they didn't become playable until Morrowind is just kinda stupid. We might as well say the Orcs shouldn't be a race either since we couldn't play them until Morrowind.

They're all the Roman with none of the badass that the Romans did have. But all the boring of the Romans as well. And overrated exaggerated glory as well.

Except the orcs were at least an existing race before, and didn't rob another race of culture and achievements.

They aren't

Hell, the "roman" qualities of the Imperials weren't even made by them, they were brought over by the Tsaesci of akavir also known as the place people commonly consider the "asia of TES"

We also have to take note that many things about the Romans weren't made by them but in fact taken from other countries and cultures.

i think the imperials should have started out with a high illusion skill. their power is based on illusion. when i messed around with them in OB, i always selected illusion as a skill to master. such as a imperial knight. knights can learn illusion.

Currently playing as an Imperial. They're not my favorite race either, but they work for the roleplay I'm doing. Imperial culture is at least more interesting than Breton culture. Redguards and Nords are easily the most interesting races of men.

I have nothing against the Cyrodiils but I dislike the Empire. Not because of the civil war, but because of how colonialist they are in Morrowind. But "Imperials" are also more interesting as a people in Morrowind than they are in Skyrim. In Skyrim they are pretty bland.

I've played as an Imperial a couple of times.

Good point.

None of the races are "insert historic culture here"

They are their own thing. For instance the Imperials are a melting pot of Niben (which is a melting point of the various Nedic tribes that inhabited the Nibenay valley.) The colovians (Cyrods with Nordic cultural qualities) Ayleids who were the heart-land elves, and Tsaesci (who ruled the second empire of man for several hundreds of years.)

The Imperials also have the whole Moth imagery thing which comes completely obvious if you pay attention to the Moth imagery of the legion in Morrowind as well as the Moth Priests.

If we just look at the imperials and say "Meh, they are just Romans" then we have to look at all the other races

"Meh, Nords are just Scandinavians"
"Meh, Bretons are just french and english"
"Meh, Redguards are just africans"
"Meh, Khajiit are just arabic"
"Meh, Argonians are just Aztecs"
"Meh, Bosmer are just african cannibal tribes"

It makes TES incredibly boring.

The creation of the Imperials wasn't "Taking away the achievements of the Nords and Bretons" it was creating the opportunity to create an interesting race, which somewhat succeeded.

Taking the opportunity to make an interesting race out of an already interesting race. Where's the logic in that, really?

Your mistake was posting this in the Skyrim General Discussion. Where Nord fanaticism spreads like a plague.

I'm not even going to bother because with you Killabee you'll just go "Nope doesn't matter, it makes the nords less cool thus it was a bad idea"

Avoid my question all you want. I don't even know why you stick up for them, the Dunmer dislike them greatly in Morrowind. Aren't you supposed to be a big Dunmer fan?

There is plenty of logic, it gives Cyrodiil a great quality and makes the cyrods their own race, their own identity instead of "just a bunch of Nords or Bretons or Mongrels"

I like the Imperials because despite the amount of people claiming they "aren't interesting" they are a very interesting race and Cyrodiil is an equally interesting country.

I don't believe those but I've met people who have, the point was by making the comparisons they devalue the race and the TES universe as a whole.

I haven't really gotten into RPing characters so i pick race based on passive ability. The Imperials' ability doesn't really do it for me. I've got nothing against them though.

I'm glad you're enjoying your character though, OP. Don't let the Stormcloaks get you down.
