Imperials going back to their roots?

Post » Sun Dec 06, 2009 4:41 pm

I took a closer look at http://www.rpgfan.com/pics/The_Elder_Scrolls_V_Skyrim/ss-015.jpg screenshot. and I noticed something. The guard next to the dog seems to be wearing armour resembling that of a Roman legionary. Or at least, it looks like that to me.
Could this mean Imperials will be Romans once more?

I for one would love this. It sets them apart from the normal "Knight races" you see everywhere and what they pretty much were in Oblivion.
Discuss! :)

How do you know that's an Imperial?...could be a Nord considering Skyrim is the land of the Nords and all gurads could be nords as every guard in Cyrodiil was an Imperial.

Bethesda made all the races more unique for Skyrim. If that isn't an Imperial, then they have failed, which I highly doubt.

Nord guards will look closer to this executioner. http://www.hwbox.gr/attachments/gaming-area/5435d1296690390-tes-v-skyrim-artofskyrim_005_executioner.jpg

Imperial or not, the armour is clearly Imperial in design. Which was my point. :)

Imperial steel style from Morrowind. Hopefully there are guards of different races.

I imagine some of the guards will be imperials at least in the territory they control. Theres a similar guard in the trailer beside the backwards windmill at 1:38. The armor style has the rank and file of the legion to me but I guess we will have to wait and see.

All I'm sayin' is that we don't have any proof of what Nords, Imperials or Bretons officially look like yet. We don't even know what race the Dragonborn is in the trailer....unless we do and I just don't know it.

I loved the fact that they were Heartless Bully's in Morrowind. Poor Fargoth. But seeing as Skyrim is at War with itself, I doubt the Imperials will have a big impact on this games Legion's and Holds.

The armor does remind me of a roman type armor, maybe the imperials are trying to gain a foothold on Skyrim?

I think its a Nord by default, since its set in Skyrim.
Only fitting to have the "face" of Skyrim be a Nord.

Considering that nords hate elves, I don't think that is going to happen

I thought the civil war thats going on in skyrim had the loyalist who wanted to remain in the empire and the others wanted skyrims independence? If thats true I would expect the legion to be there in force.

You always have Winterhold, which may have Dunmer guards.

My guess is that the Empire controlled areas will have Imperial guards and the Nord controlled areas have Nord guards.

Wouldnt the loyalists be with skyrim? (IE because they're loyal to Skyrim...)

It could also be the area where a lot of racism takes place. I wonder how that is going to be? Can't wait

I guess it depends on which side of the fence you are on. But i think the loyalist will be the ones still loyal to the empire and the others will be branded as the rebels or something.

Well, I guess you're technically a loyalist either way, your just loyal to a different side, like the "rebels" are loyal to Skyrim, and the "loyalists" are loyal to the ever crumbling and fragile so called "empire"... (which really only controls Cyrodiil and [sortof] Skyrim, right?)

I agree. I personally plan on being a Skyrim "loyalist" and leave many dead legionaries in my wake.

The Empire has been in decline since the events of Oblivion and that novel I reject as canon. Two hundred years later I don't expect them to have much of an organized military left.

On a side note if anyone's interested watch the movie Gladiator and take note of the armor Proximo gives to Maximus before they go to Rome. The Imperial guards in Morrowind are wearing it. Instead of copying Hollywood I hope this time they copy the Romans and put the guards in the Lorica Segmentata. Looks sharp as is.

By returning to their roots, what do you mean? They weren't the Romans until Morrowind.
