An implore for lore

Post » Wed Jan 19, 2011 1:24 am

I understand that the Rinrija Krin are basically khajiit bandits-turned-terrorists that fight against the Count of Layawiin (sp?) for the territory that they lost. My question is: lore wise, are they new to Oblivion or is there any older material on them?

So new they might as well be shrink-wrapped.

Ahh... so they're just some poorly implemented cookie cutter fluff like most of the other things in oblivion?

Damn they seemed pretty cool :(

svcks, huh. This is the sort of thing that caused many MW fans to be quite angry, and most definitely the DF ones became crazy hermits living in caves. Cyrodiil had so much untapped potential to be extraordinary, but so much of what made MW and DF quite interesting just lacked in that game.

There is always the possibility that they will be expanded in future games/novels/spin-offs

Probably if a TES title is going to be based on Elsywer.

Is there any mods that expand on them?

I think the Krin would have been a better addition then say Manimacro or the Hist tree which both seem to rather devoid of anything new or informative. http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/ahzirr_trajijazaeri.shtml is kinda neat in that it expands the the few words of Ta'Agra from Redgaurd and actually lays down a motivation of the how and why of things.

Wouldn't know. Ask around the Oblivion mod forum, or search Planet Elder Scrolls or tesnexus.com

They're not poorly-implemented... they're cool and hence not implemented at all. This is Oblivion, for chrissakes.

The book is hilarious. We need more khajiit stuff like it.

Don't these two statements contradict each other? Are they pretty cool, or poorly implemented cookie cutter fluff? Just because we've never heard of them before Oblivion, does not make them automatically svck.

This forum has developed a knee-jerk reaction towards all things Oblivion. Such that they are lambasting the parts that Beth left ambiguous and wanting you to push just underneath the surface and, you know, had some depth, because they don't care to actually anolyze it. They want to love to hate it.

You people are the loremasters, and this isn't the Oblivion forum. Don't say that there's no lore when there quite clearly is. The difference between Morrowind and Oblivion is that Morrowind told you things; in Oblivion you must find them out for yourself.

If you come to your own conclusions, you will find out a lot about them. The settlement of Border Watch has a Khajiit tribal leader, and the houses don't look like they were occupied without fighting. There are considerable amounts of skooma in Leyawiin and Bravil, which is referenced by in-game speech:

"The skooma trade is making a lot of money for the tribes in Elsweyr, and a lot of that is going to the Renrijra Krin."

"Sounds like the Empire has given up on stopping the skooma trade in Elsweyr, and I hear tribal chiefs are supporting the Renrijra Krin."

It does not appear to be the Renrijra Krin that are selling the skooma, they simply profit from it. It seems that local groups of criminals, such as those in Greyland, sell it and give the Renrijra Krin most of the profit.

"We need some law-and-order... bring in the Legions. 'Leyawiin for the Imperials,' I say. No sense coddling those Renrijra Krin bandits."

There is a mercenary, S'razirr, in the game who is in the Renrijra Krin, and he is noted for having a lot of arrows in combat. He also can be bribed, and as he is a mercenary it seems that the Renrijra Krin don't just rely on skooma for their income. They have also left Leyawiin with few political allies - the people claim that the count says that it has to do things for itself when you close the nearby Oblivion gate.

Splendid work. I have seen it ingame but hadn't linked them all.
