Impossible to install patch 1.7

Post » Sat Dec 18, 2010 4:42 am

Hi,

I am starting to feel that playing Fallout 3 is a bad idea. After every 5 - 7 minutes of gameplay the game crashes. I have tried to update to 1.7 patch, but it never ever works. I run the patch, start installing and then the game automatically starts. How do I get around this ?

The machine I am using is

Win 7 Pro
Intel Pentium 2.8ghz
4GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series.

I honestly have never found playing a game or trying to update it so difficult in all my life.

Any help that can be provided will be greatly received.

Also got this if it helps, but I doubt it

Do you have the Game of the Year Version?

My laptop:
Samsung R780
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
i5Core M460,
4GBDDR3,
ATI HD 5470@1g(dedicated)
5400rpmDrive......with Fallout3 GOTY all the way up in it (and works without as much as a hiccup).

yes mate.

Looking at the version number, it does seem to have updated to 1.7. Although I never actually saw the patch finish installing.

Were you able to install the expansions (found on disc 2)?

Just to clarify, you experienced crashes before the patch....and now after patching to v1.7 you are still crashing is that right?

Ensure your ATI driver is updated.

Also make sure Windows is updated.

When you open the game, in the "Play screen" click data files and make sure expansion files are selected and choose 'apply/accept'. And click 'done/close'.

When you get back to the "Play screen", open settings for video/graphics. Disable AA. Try to run a game with that setting " off ".

ATI driver - updated
Windows - Updated - no critical patches required

I didn't have all the expansion packs selected, so I have a feeling this has fixed it.

Nice one ;)

well it did last a lot longer than the last few times, but it did still crash. But that was the longest time I played on it since I got it.

Any further ideas ?

That's because it started out patched. The GOTY is already fully patched, that's why you were having problems. It might be possible that you screwed something up trying to install a patch that was already in place. I'd consider a reinstall.

I recommend updating your codecs. You can get it here: http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/

I hope it works.

Let us know.

Out of the box, I had the unpatched version. And my copy is no more than 2 weeks in my possession.

So I guess some are and some aren't but one should always check for updates.

well, I have just installed this now. In response to another comment, I was already having problems before the update.

I will see if this works and then if not I will reinstall
