Try Falcon 4 for a MANUAL! 716 pages. Oh, that's only the MAIN manual ;)

I'm looking at my Oblivion manual right now... all 52 pages, and I think it's great. I loved reading this when I first got it and I still read it every now and then. The introduction was very sincere, the mechanics were explained in depth, my first taste of lore came in the race descriptions, the art of the races in the manual is unique to the manual, it has a notes sections, it has a full variety of color, and it has a very simple yet very fantasy-type of style to it. I love it. It's very similar to Morrowind's but with an obviously different style. Both have different introductions and both feel very sincere, to me. I hope Skyrim has just as memorable of a manual.

Best one yet for me as bathroom material was EliteII - Frontier. Recently destroyed in a water leakage accident, but it was worth a small burial ceremony. 3 books, including one that had a lot of short story fiction in it, plus a fairly extensive map of the closest region in space. Awesome!

Did the 'water leakage accident' have something to do with the fact that you were using it as 'bathroom material'....?

Anyways, I too love having an in-depth manual to go along with my games (at least my favorite ones like TES), but I wouldn't be surprised if we're moving closer and closer to having digital-only versions of the manuals for all games, even for consoles.

Very much agreed. Game manuals aren't what they used to be. Ever see Assassin's Creed Brotherhoods? It's literally a pamphlet that tells you 'the manual is conveniently located in the actual game'. That's a bunch of phooey. Make it colored, thick, and awesome. And I totally agree with the Fallout situation. You can also tell NV is less polished by the amount of bugs. I got angry when people said Oblivion was buggy, 'cause I never encountered any bugs, but New Vegas is garbage, bug-wise.

When I first got Morrowind I borrowed it off a mate at school, and spent the next few hours reading the manual and planning my first character before I get home. Similarly with Oblivion, since I picked it up on release during on of my free periods in the morning. As it happened, I had a full month of "planning" until it was patched enough to run.

I've only ever used the notes section of a manual once - to write down the cheats for Tropico.

No, my humble attempts on space flight in a bathroom based on newtownian mechanics, had nothing to do with it. Purely circumstantial, I assure you :D
