Incredible Potential for Parallel Storylines

Post » Wed Oct 20, 2010 3:31 am

Interesting how New Vegas is going to be a parallel/unrelated story, from what we've heard of it.
Fallout's world definitely has lots of potential for different stories of survival ongoing at the same time, unaware of each other.

Sort of a grand rebuilding-from-the-rubble theme across various parts of the world, if they manage to pull it off that way.
more wonderful still if they can make the outcomes from all of those culminate in one finale.

i.e. DC develops water purification, some other area figures out a cure for mutations, and so on, and eventually the world is on the way to getting healed. That would be more epic than any other fantasy setting, IMO, because you would be able to appreciate all the minute struggles which make that possible.

What do you think?

After the F1 and F2 games and even after Tactics most of the United States from the West Coast to the Midwest Is already well on it's way to being back on it's feet. In game time after F2, 2241 and F3 is in 2277 so after another 36 years places Like NCR and Vault City must be doing even better. I hope in New Vegas being close to the first 2 fallouts we will learn of what is new with them. Alot of G.E.C.Ks were used out west.

would not the G.E.C.K have been better off being used the way it was supposed to insted of making the purifier work? The G.E.C.K would have Make Most of DC look like Vault City or what the Lone Wanderer and the people of Arroyo and Vault 13's New Village looked like after they used The G.E.C.K? It would have removed the radiation from the water and land, make plants grow. It would have made everything a "Garden of Eden."

As for the rest of the world it would be good to know of something but fallout would not feel the same if it was in another part of the world.

A GECK would have probably been wasted in an unorganized place like the Capital Wasteland. The Jefferson Memorial was only one building and it managed to trade hands between factions about a billion times.

By the time of Van Buren, which is set before Bethesda's Fallout there was already significant rebuilding and construction. The NCR was already on their way to building railroads in the Southwest and had expanded as a political power. Bethesda's Fallout had numerous problems but especially when it comes to the time frame, as D.C. seemed to have no real bastions of civilization, yet the city itself seemed fairly untouched.

I would really have loved to have played Van Burnen, I think it would have been alot better then Fallout 3 by Bethesda. If Only Interplay was not such an ass to BLack Isle. Van Burnen would have been better in the terms of story and it would have retained the fallout feel. All the six and drugs gambling would still be in it. The graphics and style of playing would not have been as good as Fallout 3 by Bethesda given when it would have been made. If Bethesda made Van Burnen the way Black Isle would have made it that would be very awesome. It's not going to happen but "a man can dream, a man can dream.." (wipes away a tear.)

I don't think Bethesda could make a Black Isle game. I agree that they could have tried harder to not have the game just be Elder Scrolls in the fallout universe, but there's no way they could even hope to compete with BI at their own game (er, literally)

I wouldn't call that a game flaw or a story flaw. DC Wasteland is a wasteland because there is no security. NCR and Vault City had teh benefit of walls and total internal security. That is not the case at DC, where Supermutants roam the city and the countryside, raiders and slavers are everywhere, and the only security, the BoS, are incapable of securing anything except their own base.

The Super Mutants of Washington D.C. were an obvious mistake, in regards to the canon. Also the remaining Super Mutants of the "Master's Army"/The Unity had settled down by the time of Fallout 2, so even if there were canonical super mutants in D.C. they would be generally just trying to integrate themselves into D.C. society. NCR's security situation was less than secure, as they suffered both from internal espionage and also during their war with the Brotherhood of Steel, the NCR Congress was severely damaged by BOS saboteurs. Vault City even though they had the "Vault City Guard" which operated as both Civil Police/Standing Army were severely hit by the Bishop Family mercenaries. The raiders of D.C. are less than organized, and the slavers are only centrally based with what seems like limited operations. The D.C. BOS should be able to make easy work of the raiders and slavers, since Jeremy Maxson's BOS in the East had decimated the much larger and better trained forces of the New California Republic.

The DC super mutants were made in Vault 87, apparently a different strain which would explain why they act and look differently. Only hole is why the US government would want a vault that makes monsters?
The DC BOS is a small spliter faction and to me come off as highly incompetent beyond that.

FEV wasn't designed to create monsters. It was designed to create a race of supermen. Don't confuse intention, with result.
