Inevitable 7000KB P.o.N.R

Post » Sat Feb 06, 2010 8:20 am

Alas my perseverance in helping others, since I joined prior to F:NV release, have succumbed to the inevitable 7000KB Point of No Return. After two crashes early on in the game, one in loading the Dino Gift Shop and another loading Camp McCarran, I have noticed more frequent crashes completely irrelevant to the circumstances. I have frozen and consequently crashed in Scorpion Gulch looking for a Laser Pistol; I have got stuck between invisible map barriers attempting to reach Red Rock Canyon - another of my qualms in this game; I have frozen and consequently crashed exploring near the Yangtze Memorial to name horribly the past one hour's experience.

While I remained neutral on the whole PS3 crashes, since it was incredibly difficult to discover the hindrances creating said crashes, I have finally crossed into the rather angry-lynch-mob-wielding-folk who are inundatedly passed over by the developers; locked out of threads of poor moderators ( of which I await your egotistical lock-post here); and unsurprisingly wishing their money back. I am horrified in feeling this because I loved the series, given its past. Ironically, I was aware that reaching 7000KB that this would happen and here I am.

In exploring, crashes are thrice the pain since auto-saves do reduce the time you have lost unless you happened upon one of the Auto-Save factors. This thread is neither an ultimatum demanding my money back, nor a verbatim attack on the developers but one of warranted anger. There is no purpose to this thread other to voice my anger, and simply I'm not just going to accept it.

Let me make this proficiently clear, I did not purchase this game with foresight in accepting its engine flaws, you had several years to root these out. You have failed.

I will not follow the crowd that surprisingly are happy with the odd crash or freeze there, because I was in their shoes until that odd occurence became a rife onslaught of mis-managed coding. You have failed.

There is no excuse, especially for PS3/Xbox users who cannot mod these awful crashes, fixing them, and again let me remind you that in the PC section there are hundreds of people fixing your problems, and unmistakably they have taken embarrassingly ten, twenty times less the time you have taken - and still are - to fix these problems.

I have decided that I will most likely shelve the game or trade it in for a pittance of what I paid, the sad part is you don't care - and I know you are reading these threads. That is the quality of your work.

There is no excuse anymore.

If they didn't care they wouldn't be working on patches, and they even announced that they'll have a new one available soon yesterday.

I have got stuck between invisible map barriers attempting to reach Red Rock Canyon - another of my qualms in this game;

That is annoying, I've had it happen twice myself, thankfully both times I was able to fast travel to a nearby location so I didn't have to back track much.

you know i always seem to see that the Moderators here are constantly defending Bethesda by saying that they DO care about their customers, which completely baffles me. if they did care, they would not have released such a bug ridden game to begin with. i could totally live with the freezes ect. but to be unable to complete quests because of certain faction attacking you, despite having an excellent 'reputation' with them, is TOTALLY INEXCUSABLE! i have a perfect standing with the NCR, even that stupid radio they give once you have been accepted by them, and yet when i call in for support REGARDLESS of what armor i am wearing, i am attacked without cause. what's more, many of the NCR camps i go to, i am once again attacked for no reason what so ever, and i am [censored] either way: if i kill them, i fail the quest, and if i do nothing, i [censored] die. i'm sorry, but these types of problems should have been dealt with BEFORE they released FNV, not after.

I don't know about soon... I read in the coming weeks... i think that was even info on these patches in the coming weeks not just the patches themselves... regardless its getting too little too late my friend.
My heart bleeds for all those poor souls out there unable to aquire said patches. Indeed sir, I'd like to think bethseda cares for its reputation as well as its cynical easily agitated albeit loyal customer base. I seen angry posts with other games, none of the issues withen where even close to being this severe, so those are easily overlooked. When I look over these forums, and the rants of the poor lost souls enclosed here seeking some sort of relief from the company that brought them fun moments like blowing up megaton.. its silence. I wonder if this scar will be healed? Buying a game you where looking forward too and not being able to play it for a month+ isn't easily forgotten. Neither is forcing your way threw the buggy game wich feels alot like walking threw a swamp. Games only have one chance to shine, that is on release, when the masses stay up late, buy lots of energy drinks, ciggerettes and pizza, call in sick, get comfortable and lose yourself in a world. That experience was robbed from me, I had a fitfull night that progressed threw many emotions most of them being dissapointment or anger, or even humor at the obvious flaws here and there. But... I always ramble...

This is probably my biggest gripe. Freezing angers me, but I've been able to look over it to a degree. What truly pisses me off, is the quest glitches. I mean, this is the FREAKING GAME that's messed up. Not just the engine but the play itself. The factions alliances are all screwed to hell making quests unbeatable or just not fun. What's worse, I can PROMISE a majority of these quest glitches won't be fixed. At most, the freezing will be worked to a stand-able level then Bethesda will be putting out DLC to try and make more money. I don't even know what to say.

I've got my game listed on eBay and I'm hoping it pays before Black Ops. I suggest you all do the same. I hate to imagine giving this over to some other poor gamer, but I'd rather do that than allow Bethesda to make another 60 off a poor sap.

A surprisingly touching memorium to what our video game producers priorities are.

Also, I agree with the others, unfortunately there is no defence for this. The game has been released for a while now, if the problems were completely irrelevant to their shortcomings in FO3 like graphic glitches or something, I could perhaps understand this, and possibly if it was a new engine, again I could understand this. However it is not, and it is the same again.

You can not say that they care, because the amount they do care is miniscule to the amount they should.
Do not defend their failures by attempting to converge their quality and quantity of patches ( sorry, patch) with their care, I am not a child and I believe I know when someone doesn't give a Hoover dam. If this was a retail, or shop of some sort I'd be spewing at the manager, and I sadly have to resort to some pathetic-low forum thread that is erstwhile a waste of my five minutes.

The worst part of this all is that I kind of saw this comming. When I read that Obsidian was doing the Fallout 3 sequel my mind immediately flashed back to Knight of the old republic II. I really hoped it would be different this time. I thought: "Surely they have learned some valuable lessons by now ?". Of course we all know how this story ends; House's bots shoot me on sight for no reason, Boone is AWOL and the war hero of the NCR is greeted by NCR folk the way Westboro Baptist Church members greets war heroes.

I can live with the freezes, the graphical glitches and getting stuck somewhere. However I'm not going to replay 3 hours of the game because every time some of the quest mechanics get screwed up again.
