Infinity Engine Graphics Problems

Post » Mon Mar 30, 2009 2:29 pm

Any of my old IE based games (BG/IWD/PS:T) seem to have this glaring graphical problem, BLACK BLOCKS! Everywhere! I can get rid of the ones for the Fog of War in PS:T but items still have the boxes, and so do some VGui entities. Now the only solution I've been able to dig up online is to turn down my hardware acceleration to the third from the bottom line in my display settings, as this problem is caused by new graphics cards. I've done this, and it works....

HOWEVER.. it introduces OTHER problems that weren't there before! On certain static images (menus/ect) I get cursor trails that wont go away. While this problem is minor it is certainly a immersion ruiner, and overall lowers the enjoyment of the game.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to fix this problem? (besides uninstalling all my video drivers each time I wanna play)

1.) make sure you are running in windows compatibility mode. Right click on .exe of game and go to compatibility. Make sure it is set to windows 95 or 98 or even XP. See if that helps.

2.) Run the game in 256 mode. Do so by the same method above and hit the checkmark box.

Goodluck, and next time post more about your machine to make it easier to help.
