Information on performance mods

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2016 2:50 pm

Hello,

Recently, in a recommended mod list I came across two performance-improving mods, namely,

Operation Optimization,

http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/10510/?

and Streamline,

http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/10400/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Foblivion%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D10400%26preview%3D&pUp=1

Both mods sound good from the descriptions, but I notice they have not been updated in a while and I was wondering if they would still be "the mods to use", or if there aren't any problems with them that have surfaced meanwhile. Could anyone possibly shed some light on that?

Thanks.

AFAIK Operation Optimisation is outdated, and I'm sure I read somewhere some bug reports, and advices to not use it anymore.

As for Streamline, you may use it's save feature (but without automatic saves, use only notices, autosaves are know to cause problems!). For it's other features, they are better in Oblivion Reloaded.

Streamline was supposed to be a good mod, but it has a big problem: while it reduce the burden on the graphic card, it increase the burden on the script engine.

What's the problem with this? The graphic card gain is negligible: 2009+ graphic cards should be able to run Oblivion at max settings without problems. Instead, modern CPU spread their power over too many cores (4-6-8 cores, where every single core is not very powerful alone), while Oblivion barely support 2. This means an unmodded game runs fine, but a modded game (with many scripts running all on a single core) may severely cripple your FPS no matter how powerful is your CPU. Only overclock can reduce this bottleneck.

Since Streamline add more scripts, it causes more loss than gain.
